The invention relates to the field of mechanical engineering and can be used in starters for starting internal combustion engines. A starter is known for starting an internal combustion engine, comprising a radially movable electric motor, a gear drive and a lever with a fork. This prevents the use of additional damping devices on it to reduce shock loads on the starter parts and results in insufficient durability and reliability of the starter. The purpose of the invention is to increase the durability and reliability of the starter. The goal is achieved by the fact that the drive is provided with a damping device, and the lever is made up of two pivotally connected elements 7, one of which is connected to the pole and the other via the drive, with the spring support plane located above the center of the hinge joint.
