A new anhydrous sodium dichromate in flakes, Na2Cr2O7, m.p. 356 DEG C. (dec. 400 DEG C.) is described, characterized in that it comes in flakes with an area of approx. 1 cm2, thickness 0.5 mm and apparent specific gravity 1.10 (absolute 2.748) at 25 DEG C.; it is not deliquescent, nor does it become powdery. It is prepared from dihydrate sodium dichromate or aqueous solutions thereof using a new process in two stages, namely (a) evaporation-melting of the dihydrate salt or concentrated aqueous solution at a strictly controlled temperature of around 380 DEG C. and no higher, and (b) flaking of the melted mass obtained thereby, as it is being rapidly cooled to 150 DEG -160 DEG C. The apparatus for carrying out the process is also claimed; said apparatus consisting essentially of a dehydrator-melter oven, a flaker rotating at 10-20 revs per minute and a heat recovery system. The aim of the invention is to obtain a target product in the form of flakes 0.5 mm thick with a surface of f - cv3, an apparent density of 1.1 and an absolute density of 2.746 at 25 ° Co. Example. Sodium bichromate dihydrate in an amount of 100 kg / h is introduced into a continuous steel cylindrical reactor heated to 300 ° C. The eutectic mixture is heated by flue gases to 410 C. Dihydrate Sodium bichromate is heated by indirect heat exchange with the indicated eutectic mixture up to 380 C. At the same time, it is dehydrated and melted. The molten mass in the amount of 87 kg / h is removed from the reactor and sent to the machine a flake consisting of a rotating drum with a length of 290 mm and a diameter of 290 mm connected to the stripping knife. The said eutectic mixture is located inside the drum, the temperature of which is maintained within 150 -160 ° C. The melt of dehydrated sodium bichromate is fed to a spinning machine drum rotating from 10 to 20 rpm. The sodium bichromate melt hardening on the drum is removed with a knife to obtain a product in the form of 0.5 mm thick flakes. s surface 1 cm2, apparent density 1.1 and absolute density, 746 at 25 ° С. When the drum rotates at a speed of more than 20 rev / min, the product does not have time to harden and cannot be obtained in the form of scales, since it came into contact with the knife, being in a plastic state.
