A system for use of gas, like LPG, as secondary fuel in diesel engines is concerned. Normally aspirated and pressure charged engines with exhaust gas driven charging, with End-speed or All-speed governors or with common-rail-fuel injection systems are all included. A signal (24,25) proportional to the momentary effective fuel consumption controls the gas supply (20) to the engine (1). A valve (19) in the gas supply (18) is connected to the control lever (16) of the engine governor (12) to allow gas supply only in a load range above approximately 25 % and up to a maximum of approximately 40 % of the full load total fuel consumption. In the lower load range uncomplete combustion of the gas thus is avoided, in the higher load range both detonation and overload are avoided and the opacity of the exhaust is improved. The consumption of liquid fuel is reduced and the exhaust gas composition is improved. An adjustable stop (28,29) limits the maximum injectable liquid fuel quantity when the engine is operated in the dual-fuel-mode. The system is designed to be both retrofittable to existing engines and fittable to factory new engines.

Claims (7)

1. A device for using gas as an additional fuel in a diesel engine of predominantly autotractor type, containing a mixer for forming a mixture of air and additional gas fuel, installed in the intake manifold of the engine equipped with a filter, gas pressure regulator with a special power drive; connected through the gas line to the mixer, and the dosing body of the gas fuel supply, connected through a kinematic connection to the control lever of the speed or load regulator installed on the fuel pump, having a supply limiter and communicated with the pipeline supply of diesel fuel, which is characterized by the fact that, in order to increase efficiency by coordinating the supply of diesel and ha. fuel oil with engine operating modes, the device is equipped with a signal supply unit proportional to the instantaneous consumption of diesel fuel, which is connected to a gas pressure regulator, the signal supply unit is equipped with a direct or "indirect flow sensor, and the supply limiter is remotely controlled.

The device according to PP. 1 and 2, which differs from the fact that the kinematic connection between the dosing unit of the gas fuel supply and the lever of the regulator is made in the form of a system of articulated levers, one of which is placed between the two extreme levers, is connected.
