Method of improving the heat balance and thus increasing the amt. of scrap that can be used in refining cast iron in a converter having oxygen tungenes below the bath surface with protective sheaths, and oxygen blowing devices above the bath level, is claimed in which during a large part of the refining period, 20-80% of the O2 is fed into the bath by jets directed toward the bath surface from above the bath surface, and the rest is blown in below the surface. The amount of O2 blown onto the surface from above is varied during the course of the refining. The properties of the steel produced are unaltered, despite the improved heat balance and the increased use of scrap. The axis of the free jets w.r.t. the surface of the bath make an angle with the axis of rotation of the converter of >35(>45) degrees.

This invention relates to ferrous metallurgy, in particular, to methods for smelting steel in converters.
The purpose of the invention is to increase the efficiency of the process due to more complete heat recovery.
The method is carried out as follows.
In a converter with a capacity of 45 tons, 1 2 tons of scrap are loaded and 38 tons of pig iron of the composition are poured,%: carbon 4.2; silicon 0.7; manganese 0.8; phosphorus 0.1 with a temperature of 1280 ° C. The converter is equipped with ten nozzles, the inner tube for supplying oxygen of which has a B11 internal diameter of 18 mm located in the bottom, and an additional tuyere of diameter 40 mm to supply oxygen to the level of the melt installed above the trunnion in the transition zone the cylindrical part into a conical part at a height of 2 m from the level of the calm melt. Bottom nozzles and a lance are made in the form of two concentric tubes, the gap between which is 1 mm, and propane is blown into this gap in the form of a protective medium.
The total duration of the redistribution, including a two-minute additional purge, is 10 minutes. In the process of redistribution, 2300 nm of oxygen is blown into the melt. I blow in oxygen through bottom nozzles with a speed of 7000 and through an additional lance - 4500. Through the annular gap of the bottom nozzles blown 2% by weight of propane oxygen, and through the annular gap of additional tuyere - 0.5% by weight of propane oxygen.

2.4 tons of powdered lime are added. During the two-minute desalting phase, 1.5 tons of lime are blown in, and by the end of the main blowing process, 600 kg of lime is blown at a flow rate of 5 kg / nm of oxygen. In the course of a two-minute additional blow, foamy slag is formed in the converter and 300 kg of powdered lime is blown into the melt to suppress it for 20 seconds.
