Alkali-resistant glass fibres for use as reinforcement in cementitious products are formed from a composition comprising, in weight percentages: SiO2 55 to 75% R2O @@ 11 to 23% ZrO2 @@@6 to 22% Cr2O @@@0.1 to 1% Al2O3 0.1 to 7% Rare earth oxides + TiO2 0.5 to 16% where R2O is any one or more of Na2O, K2O or Li2O, the content of TiO2 does not exceed 10%, and the total of the components recited above amounts to at least 88% by weight of the glass, the glass having been melted under non- oxidising conditions such that all or a substantial proportion of the chromium in the glass is in the trivalent state. Cementitious products incorporating such fibres, e.g. in a proportion of 3 to 6 weight %, can be made using a Magnani-type asbestos cement machine or by a "spray-up" method.

1. GLASS FIBER FOR REINFORCING CONCRETE, including SiO 4> ZrO 2 , AfjO, at least one component from the group Ti0 2 , oxides of rare-earth elements, at least one component from the group Na ^ O, K 2 0, LijO, characterized the fact that, in order to increase the corrosion resistance to cement, it additionally contains Cr g O 3 in the following ratio of components, wt.%:
SiO 2 55-75
ZrOi6-22
AfjOj0.1-7
At least one component from the group T10 g , rare earth oxides 0.5-15.9
At least one component from the group
Na 2 O, K g 0, Li 2 0 11-23
Cr 2 O, 0.1-1 and the content of TiO 2 does not exceed 10%.

2. Glass fiber according to claim 1, characterized in that it further comprises at least one component from the group MgO, CaO, PbO, ZnO, MnO, CuO, NiO, CoO, FeO in an amount of 1-9 wt.%.
