l0 l5 20 25 30 swivel cassettes for handling fibers at e.g. splicing of the same.
Furthermore, the switch cabinets are relatively small and the equipment is tightly packed therein, which means that it is cramped and difficult to access the fibers in the backbone cable, as you pull in and splice the fibers during new installation, but you also have this problem when pulling in additional fiber cables. in the form of trunk cables and partly to the end user. Even when connecting new subscribers, it is difficult to manage / splice the new subscriber's fiber cable to the cable / cables existing in the cabinet.
In the event that a new fiber cable / frame cable is to be inserted in the switch cabinet, this is done from below and at the back of the bottom of the cabinet, which means that all the equipment in front is gone and must be removed from the cabinet.
A way to solve this problem with known switch cabinets, when withdrawing e.g. a new fiber cable and / or handling / splicing of a fiber cable, is to attach the cassettes for handling / splicing the fibers pivotally to a stand in the switch cabinet.
A disadvantage of this solution is that all fibers, which are handled / spliced, are subjected to mechanical stresses in the form of bending and / or tension, when swinging the cassette in and out of the cabinet. More specifically, because the cassettes are pivotable, at least the outer sheath of the cable must be removed to allow proper handling / bending of the cable. At e.g. fiber cables containing blown fiber, the cable consists of a number of hoses made of rigid plastic material, each of which usually contains 12 to 96 fibers. These hoses are easily folded and then get permanent folds / kinks, which can cause breakage of the fibers. In addition, in order to enable the pivotability of the cassette to be possible, the fibers / hoses must be freely supported between their attachment to the cabinet and their attachment to the cassette, i.e. at the area of the cable where the actual bending of the same takes place. Due to the free support, the fibers / hoses become very sensitive to mechanical action.
Furthermore, when closing the door, care must be taken that no fibers / hoses get pinched or bend in an unfavorable direction, whereby the fibers can fall off.
It must also be ensured that the bending radius of the fibers does not become too small, as the attenuation in the fiber increases with a reduced radius.
SUMMARY OF THE INVENTION The object of the invention is therefore to provide a pivotable cassette with which the above-mentioned disadvantages are eliminated. More particularly, the object of the invention is to provide that at least the part of a fiber cable whose outer sheath is removed over this entire distance is substantially continuously supported to enable controlled bending / straightening thereof depending on the oscillation of the cassette.
This object is achieved with a pivotable cassette for handling at least one fiber cable, which cassette is provided with a fastening portion which is pivotally attached to a holder to enable the cassette to be pivoted between a retracted position and a unfolded position, and the fiber cable is arranged to is inserted into and out of the cassette via the mounting portion, and it is characteristic of the invention that a carriage is arranged between and articulated attached to the cassette mounting portion and the holder, and that the fiber cable is fixed to at least the slide to allow controlled bending or straightening of the fiber cable. of the cassette. BRIEF DESCRIPTION OF THE DRAWINGS The invention is described in more detail below with reference to the accompanying drawing, in which - Fig. 1 is a schematic perspective view of two splice cassettes, one being unfolded, hingedly attached to a holder and provided with an associated slide according to the invention, Fig. 2 is an enlarged view of the part within the circle of Fig. 1, and Fig. 3 is an enlarged detail view in perspective of the slide shown in Figs. 1 and 2.
Description of Preferred Embodiments The following description describes the invention applied to a cassette for handling, preferably splicing, optical fibers, but it is obvious that the invention can be applied to an optical distribution frame (ODF) and similar optical fiber handling equipment.
In the following description, fiber cable preferably refers to a cable whose outer sheath is removed to obtain relatively easily flexible fibers, but also blow fibers in single or multi-design, which lie in a hose, and ribbon fiber.
Fig. 1 shows two cassettes 1a, 1b for handling, preferably splicing, of optical fibers (not shown), which cassettes are pivotally attached to a holder / stand 2. It is obvious to the person skilled in the art that one or more cassettes can be arranged at the same holder 2. Respective cassette 1a, 1b preferably has the shape of an elongate, preferably flat body at whose short side 12, which is preferably curved, a projecting fastening portion 3 is arranged. The fastening portion 3 preferably has a smaller width than the width of the cassette and is intended to be pivotally attached to the holder 2, which is arranged in a switch cabinet of the type shown in the introduction, not shown. The upper cassette 1a is shown in a flare out of the switch cabinet. The optical fibers included in a fiber cable (not shown) are intended to be inserted into and out of the cassette via the fastening portion 3.
As can be seen from Fig. 2, an elongate slat 4 is hingedly fastened between the respective cassette 1a, 1b fastening portion 3 and the holder 2.
More specifically, a first breath 5 of the elongate slat is pivotally attached to the fastening portion 3 via a pivot shaft 7, which is separate from the pivot shaft 8 of the fastening portion 3 at the holder 2, and a second spirit 6 of the elongated slat is slidably attached to the holder 2. 7 years arranged on one side of the fastening portion 3 located opposite the fastening of the holder 2 in the cabinet and offset relative to the pivot axis 8, the pivot axis 8 being placed between the holder 2 and the pivot axis 7. This means that a cable extending from the coupling cabinet via the holder 2 and the sled 4 into the fastening portion 3 of the cassette, not at any part of its extent within this portion is self-evident, i.e. the holder, the string and the fastening portion form a continuous cable ladder, to which the cable can be fixed. This means that it is possible to control the bending / exhaustion of the fiber cable in dependence on the pivoting of the cassette, ie. a controlled bending pattern of the cable (s) can be ensured to avoid breakage of the fibers and too small a bending radius which can lead to steaming of the signal in the fibers.
Furthermore, by arranging the slat 4 between the holder 2 and the fastening portion 3 in accordance with the invention, the cable / fibers, in the unfolded position of the cassette, have a substantially straight extension from the switch cabinet into the cassette via the holder, the sled and the fastening portion. As can be seen from Fig. 2, the other end 6 of the respective carriage 4 is provided with a projecting pin 10 intended to slidably run in a groove 11 in the holder 2 at in- resp. precipitation of the cassette 1a, 1b.
With the help of the slide, it thus becomes possible to ensure a controlled bending pattern of the cable / fibers, ie. to control the bending / straightening of the cable / fibers when unfolding and unfolding the respective cassette so that the cable or any fibers are not bent in the wrong direction or get pinched.
The fiber cable and / or the fibers which go into and out of the cassette 1a, 1b are preferably attached to at least the carriage 4 and it is provided for this purpose with suitable fastening means 9 (Fig. 3). The attachment of the cable / fibers can be done with e.g. cable tie.
Furthermore, the slide 4 is preferably designed as a groove, for example with a U-shape, in which the fiber cable is intended to run. At its open side, the gutter may be provided with tongues 13 to facilitate the guidance and / or attachment of the fiber cable.
According to the invention, the movement arising in the fiber cable in the longitudinal direction thereof, which arises when the cassette is pivoted, takes place at a portion of the cable which is separate from the above-mentioned fastening portion, slide and holder, i.e. the parts that formed the cable steps.
