Summary of the InventionAn object of the present invention is to provide onedevice which at least partially solves the above problems.
This object has now been achieved by an applicator whichhas the features set forth in the appended claim 1, by apressure cylinder device according to claim 16 and by the method according toPreferred embodiments of the invention are defined inclaims 2-15 and 17.
An application device according to the invention comprises aapplication device for applying cliché assembly along a rotatablethe outer surface of the pressure cylinder, which pressure cylinder is arranged to rotate belowimposition of said cliché assembly, and which cliché assembly has oneleading edge and a trailing edge relative to the pressure cylinderdirection of rotation and is attachable to the pressure cylinder at the leading edge, wherein the application device comprises an abutment means, and amounting stand for mounting and holding the abutment member at itrotatable pressure cylinder, the mounting rack is arranged to, whenthe abutment means is mounted to the pressure cylinder, holding the abutment meansmovable between a stand-by mode and a working mode, and whereinthe mounting stand and the abutment means are so arranged anddesigned to, in stand-by mode, the pressure cylinder including cliché mountingis freely rotatable past the abutment means, and in the working position, whenthe leading edge of the cliché assembly is attached to the mantle surface of the printing cylinder, the pressure cylinder rotates to apply the cliché assembly, and the cliché assemblyleading edge passed by the abutment means, the abutment means abuts10152025303against the cliché assembly so that the cliché assembly is smoothed along the pressure cylindermantelyta.
The clichés are normally mounted on a thin mounting foil, for example0.1 mm thick, which mounting foil must be attached to the printing unit's printing cylinderby wrapping it around the pressure cylinder and attaching it to the front and rear edges.
The foliage is often of a size that matches the size of the sheetswhich are entered into the machine for each order. In the prior artcliché assembly is performed purely manually. In many cases, two are requiredoperators for mounting the clichés on the printing cylinder becausethe cliché assembly is often relatively large and flexible. For obtaining good qualitywhen printing, the cliché assembly should also be mounted smoothly againstthe pressure cylinder without bubbles or folds.
The application device according to claim 1 comprises aabutment means and a mounting stand for mounting and holdingthe abutment means at the pressure cylinder. Thanks to the mounting standarranged to keep the abutment means fl visible between a stand-by position, wherethe printing cylinder, including the cliché assembly, is freely rotatablethe abutment means, and a working position, where the abutment means abutscliché assembly, the abutment means can act as an aid forassembly of cliché assembly while not obstructing the machinenormal operation, or more precisely during the printing of corrugated board products.
Thus, the mounting rack holds the abutment member so thatthe abutment member in the working position can abut against the cliché assembly and holdit in place against and smooth it over the pressure cylinder. This makes it possibleadvantageously an even flattening of the cliché assembly along the pressure cylindermantle surface so that problems with bubbles and creases on the mounting foil orthe clichés can be avoided. Furthermore, the mounting position holds the abutment memberso in stand-by mode that it is not in the way when the machine is working for productionand printing of the corrugated cardboard product in question.
This facilitates the application device according to the inventionthe work of changing the cliché assembly so that the attachment of the clichés goesfaster. Faster replacement of clichés leads to a shorter set-up time, which gives one10152025304higher production rate of the machine. It is also possible to achievean even attachment of the cliché assembly.
In addition, the invention enables the cliché assembly to be held in placeassembly of the cliché assembly and especially when assembling the cliché assemblyback edge. When the abutment member is in the working position, it abutsthe cliché assembly and presses the cliché assembly against the mantle surface of the printing cylinder, sothat a single operator can easily and conveniently attach the trailing edge tothe pressure cylinder. In contrast, with a purely manual assembly ofcliché assembly, there is a risk that one of the operators will lose controlthe cliché assembly, which can then go in due to the rotating pressure cylinderin the machine and destroyed. Clichés are relatively expensive and to reduce the risk ofthey are destroyed prematurely is therefore something that is sought after. Thanks to the presentinvention, the change of cliché assembly is thus also safer.
As mentioned above, in many cases two operators have been required in the pastfor mounting cliché mounting. Thanks to the help with retention andextension of the cliché assembly as the applicator according toclaim 1 provides, it is possible that only one operator alone can perform oneclichébyte. Therefore, the need for staffing at each machine andfinancial savings can be made.
In addition, corrugated cardboard products are increasingly provided with printed images andtext and multicolor printing are becoming more common. Therefore has reduced set-up time duesimplified and faster replacement of cliché assembly according to the invention largesignificance for the total setting time of the machine in connection with the replacement ofproduction series.
"Print cylinder" in the present application refers to a cylindrical onebody which is arranged to transmit a print image via clichés mounted onthe jacket surface of the printing cylinder into a corrugated board product. During the printing processrotates the printing cylinder with the mounted clichés against a paint roller wherebycolor is transferred to the surfaces of the clichés. The colored clichés are rolled towards well-the cardboard product whereby the print image is transferred.
The cliché assembly comprises one or more clichés mounted on a folioor a movie. The cliché montage can also include only clichés whichmounted directly on the pressure cylinder. The cliché assembly has a leading edge and10152025305a following edge whereby, when the cliché assembly is mounted or is mounted onthe pressure cylinder, the leading edge is placed before the following edge indirection of rotation of the pressure cylinder.
The cliché assembly is arranged to be attached to the pressure cylindermantelyta. The attachment of cliché assembly can be done, for example, with tape, magnets, vacuum, quick-lock fastening system or Matthewsfastening system or other suitable fastening means. Cliché assemblyattached in an extended condition along the mantle surface of the pressure cylinder.
The mounting stand in the present invention relates to a stand or aposition which holds the abutment means and is arranged for mounting at aprinting cylinder in a machine for the production of corrugated board products, for examplecorrugated cardboard boxes. Furthermore, the mounting stand is arranged to holdthe abutment member in two different positions, the stand-by position and the working position.
In one embodiment, the mounting stand is arranged so that, whenthe applicator is mounted on a pressure cylinder in a machine, the abutment means is kept at a distance from the pressure cylinder in the stand-by position.
The mounting stand can be arranged to rotate, turn or sidewaysmove the abutment member to its stand-by position. The mounting stand is inan embodiment attached to the outer ends of the abutment means and arranged toattached to the machine housing or body or other suitable location.
The mounting stand may include one or more position sensors forindication of the position of the abutment means. The portability between stand-bythe mode and working mode can be manually or mechanically controlled.
In the standby mode, the abutment means is at a distance fromthe printing cylinder, whereby the printing cylinder with applied cliché mounting can rotate freelypast the abutment means which gives the advantage that e.g. color is not transferred tothe abutment means during a printing process. The abutment body canthus kept clean and does not need to be washed often. The risk of the machine orthe corrugated cardboard product to be printed is also reduced. Furtheradvantage is that the abutment member does not wear the cliché assembly unnecessarily. In stand-in the village position, the abutment means is placed in other words so that it does not interfere with oneprinting process.10152025306In the working position, the abutment means is arranged to abutthe cliché assembly so that the cliché assembly is smoothed along during applicationthe outer surface of the pressure cylinder. An extended cliché assembly is advantageous thenbubbles and creases can be avoided leaving the chances of getting a satisfactorypressure results are improved.
The movability of the abutment member is thus advantageous when it enablesflexibility when applying cliché assembly. In this case, it is also possible tothe mounting device is arranged to hold the abutment member in severalpositions than in the two working modes described above and the stand-by mode, respectively, for example, the abutment means may be fl visible between three or more discretepositions or be continuously movable. Preferably, the abutment meansreleasably lockable in their positions.
In one embodiment of the present invention comprisesthe abutment means a surface which abuts the cliché assembly belowcliché. Said surface comprises a material which is elastic forsparing the clichés and which gives a friction against the cliché montage forsmoothing of the cliché assembly. The clichés are relatively costly which is whyimportant to spare them and protect them from wear and tear for as long as possible.
The surface of the abutment member is therefore preferably elastic. The surface gives afriction against the cliché assembly which friction is sufficient to give a smoothingeffect on the cliché assembly. Said surface comprises in one embodiment at leastpartly a rubber material.
In one embodiment of the present invention, saidabutment means elongated. The abutment means may, for example, bearranged to abut against the cliché assembly along the entire pressure cylinderto which it is intended to be mounted. An advantage of an elongatedabutment means is that the contact pressure can be evenly distributed overthe width of the cliché assembly. An even contact pressure is advantageous so as not to wearor otherwise damage the surface of the clichés. The abutment means can, for examplebe arranged to extend parallel to the pressure cylinder in the working position and instand-by mode.
An alternative embodiment of the present invention includessaid abutment means discrete elements where each element comprises the above10152025307said surface. The abutment means can in this embodiment be constructedfor a split contact with the cliché assembly. The discrete elements can beone or more evenly distributed elements, alternatively elements arranged with onedistribution adapted to the cliché assembly. The discrete elements can bemovably arranged along the width of the pressure cylinder whereby the distribution canadapted for each cliché.
In one embodiment of the present invention, saidabutment means a sliding element, which sliding element comprises the above-mentionedsurface. The sliding element is arranged to slide or scrape against the surface of the cliché assemblyto provide a smoothing of the cliché assembly along the mantle surface of the printing cylinder.
The sliding element may, for example, comprise blade or finger means or be a cam member.format.
In one embodiment of the present invention, saidabutment means a rotatable roller or roller, the mantle surface of the rollerincludes the above-mentioned surface. An advantage of a rotatable roller is that a sliding onemovement between abutment means and pressure cylinder can be avoided. A slidingmovement increases the risk of abrasion damage to the clichés.
In one embodiment of the present invention, the roller is bombarded accordinglyway that the diameter of the roller at the outer edges is smaller than the central diameter of the roller.
An advantage is that the abutment force can be kept constant along the length of the rollerthanks to the fact that the bombing can compensate for flexibility in the roll. Withoutbombing, the contact pressure at the central parts of the roller risks being lower thanthe contact pressure at the outer ends of the roller.
The roller can be freely mounted, the rotation of the pressure cylinder being transferableto the roll. An alternative embodiment of the present invention includesthe laying device a means for adjusting the rotational resistance of the roller.
The rotation resistance can be controlled by adjusting the friction in the rotation bearing.
Suitable rotational resistance can be adapted to current dimensions, stiffnessat the cliché assembly etc.
In one embodiment of the present invention comprisesthe laying device a counter-member connected to the roller so that the roller inthe working position is arranged to keep the cliché assembly stretched even during a rotationof the pressure cylinder opposite the direction of rotation for piling10152025308the cliché assembly, the abutment member comprising, for example, a roller spring. Oneadvantage of an abutment means is that the extent of the cliché assembly canmaintained even in the event of an interruption of the application and in the event of a reversal orrotation in the opposite direction.
In one embodiment of the present invention comprisesthe applicator means a rotating means for rotating the roller, whichrotating means is arranged to rotate the roller at least in the working position. In aalternative embodiment, the rotating means is arranged to rotate the roller both inthe direction of rotation for applying the cliché assembly and vice versadirection of rotation. An advantage of a rotating roller is, for example, that onerotation in the opposite direction when abutting the cliché assembly can provide a fastinitial stretching of the cliché assembly. The rotating member can, for exampleinclude an engine.
In one embodiment of the present invention, the abutment member isarranged to smooth out during the application of said cliché assemblythe cliché assembly along the outer surface of the printing cylinder with an extension force, wherein said extending force is 20-200N. The extent of the force isopposite direction of rotation of the pressure cylinder during application ofcliché assembly. A force lower than 20 N makes it difficult to stretch folds andbubbles. The friction between the pressure cylinder and the cliché assembly risks beinghigher than the extent of the extension and thus counteract the smoothing ofcliché assembly. A force higher than 200N leads to the risk of the cliché assembly failingor goes off, or to stresses on the rotation mechanism of the pressure cylinder.
In addition, the cliché assembly risks being pulled out and thus deformed, whereby the print image risks being distorted.
The present invention also includes a pressure cylinder devicecomprising a rotatable pressure cylinder and an applicator according toabove, the pressure cylinder being arranged to hold at least onecliché assembly along the mantle surface of the printing cylinder. According to one embodimentextends the abutment means, when arranged parallel tothe pressure cylinder, over the entire pressure cylinder.
Furthermore, the present invention comprises a method of applying acliché mounting on a rotatable pressure cylinder with an applicator,101520259including the steps of mounting the piling means with the abutment meansin stand-by mode, mount the leading edge of the cliché assembly on the printing cylindermantle surface, move the abutment member from its stand-by position to itsworking position in which said abutment means is abutted against the cliché assembly andthe pressure cylinder, rotating the pressure cylinder, said abutment meansachieves smoothing of the cliché assembly along the mantle surface of the printing cylinder, stop the rotation of the printing cylinder, mount the next edge of the cliché assemblyon the outer surface of the pressure cylinder, move said abutment means to its position.by4äge.

The outer edges of the printing cylinder are rotatablefastened in a housing 3. The pressure cylinder 1 is arranged with a rail 5 of the typeMatthew fastening system for fastening a cliché assembly 7.
The cliché assembly 7 in Fig. 1 and Fig. 4 is attached to the front edge 9 in the rail 5, and is freein the rear edge 11. A bearing member in the form of a roller 13 is mounted alongwith the length of the pressure cylinder 1. The roller 13 is mounted via amounting stand which is shown in more detail in Figs. 2, 3 and Figs. 5, 6.
The mounting stand includes mounting plates 15, 16, rotatable brackets 17, 18, 20,compressed air controlled cylinder 19, extendable arm 21, rocker arm 23 and fastening element 22.
The mounting plates 15, 16 are attached to the housing 3. The compressed air controlled cylinder19 is rotatably attached at the bottom edge with bracket 17 to the mounting plate 15. The cylinder is locatedan extendable arm, which with compressed air can be controlled to be in an extended positionposition or a retracted position. The extendable arm is rotatable in its upper partattached via the bracket 20 to an upper end of a rocker arm 23. The rocker arm 23 is in turnrotatably attached via bracket 18 at its lower end to the mounting plate 16. The roller 13 isrubber coated and rotatably attached to the rocker arm 23 at its upper end. Onecompressed air penetration is arranged via the bracket 17 for guiding the arm 21position in the cylinder 19.
The mounting rack of the present invention is arranged to pourthe roller 13 is movable between a stand-by position and a working position. Stand-by modeis shown in Fig. 1- Fig. 3 and the working mode is shown in Fig. 4- Fig. 6. In Fig. 7 aembodiment of the mounting stand and the roller in an unassembled condition.
In the standby mode, the mounting stand keeps the roller 13 at a distance fromthe outer surface of the pressure cylinder 1. Compressed air in the compressed air cylinder 19 causes itthe extendable arm 21 is held in an extended position. By adjusting the air pressurethe extendable arm 21 can be guided into the cylinder 19 and the roller 13 is then laidan mot clichémontaget 7.
The function of the applicator roller 13 and an example of one are described belowapplication of a cliché assembly 7 along the mantle surface of a printing cylinder 1.101520253011When a cliché assembly 7 is to be mounted on the pressure cylinder 1 is placedroller 13 in standby mode. The front edge 9 of the cliché assembly is inserted under the rollersand is mounted in the rail 5 in the pressure cylinder 1. Then the roller 13 is placed inthe working position in which it abuts against the cliché assembly 7 along the printing cylinder 1.
The pressure cylinder 1 is set in rotation with the cliché assembly 7 abuttingthe pressure cylinder 1 during application. The roller 13 then begins to rotatethe cliché assembly 7 begins to move together with the pressure cylinder 1. The frictionbetween the cliché assembly 7 and the roller 13 is high enough for the roller 13 torotate and do not slide along the surface of the cliché assembly 7. The rolling roller 13holds the cliché assembly 7 pressed against the printing cylinder 1 and the cliché assembly 7kept stretched and flattened by the traction provided.
The rotation of the pressure cylinder 1 is stopped in a position where it is accessible to attachthe trailing edge 11 of the cliché assembly 7 at the printing cylinder 1 by means of tape directly againstcylinder surface (not shown). When the trailing edge 11 of the cliché assembly 7 is attachedagainst the pressure cylinder 1, the roller 13 is placed in stand-by position and the application ofcliché assembly 7 is completed.
The roller 13 is thus placed in the stand-by position partly when mountingthe leading edge 9 of the cliché assembly 7, and partly when the cliché assembly 7 is completemounted on the printing cylinder 1, ready for printing a cliché image on a corrugatedpappark.
The roller is placed in the working position when the leading edge 9 of the cliché assembly 7 isattached to the rail 5 of the pressure cylinders 1 and the application of the cliché assembly 7 shallstart. The roller 13 is also placed in working position during the application ofthe cliché assembly 7 along the outer surface of the printing cylinder 1 and then the trailing edge 11 offthe cliché assembly 7 is fixed.
