Technical area
The present invention relates to the technical field of motor vehicle equipment, in particular air supply equipment for motor vehicle engines and more particularly to engines whose feed air comes from a compressor or a turbocharger.
State of the art
The supply air from a compressor or turbocharger is also called "charge air".
In order to increase the density of the intake air of a turbocharged engine, it is known to cool the charge air leaving the compressor by means of a heat exchanger which is also called charge air cooler. (abbreviated: RAS).
A RAS generally has a heat exchange bundle. This heat exchange bundle comprises a stack of plates or tubes alternately forming circulation channels for the supercharged air to be cooled and channels for the circulation of heat transfer fluid, in particular engine coolant. The heat exchange between the plates or tubes and the charge air is carried out in part by means of turbulators. The bundle is enclosed in a receptacle which generally has the shape of a straight and hollow cylinder, most often of rectangular base, connected at one of its open ends to an inlet air box and to the other to an outlet air box (configuration in I, that is to say that the air to be cooled follows a straight line path); or at one of its ends open to an inlet and outlet air box and to the other to a deflection air box (U-shaped configuration, i.e. the air to be cooled follows a bent path so as to emerge appreciably collinearly in its direction of entry).
Examples of such a bundle are described in documents DE 102009053884, FR 2822532 and DE 502006001571. The receptacle is connected to the air boxes by means of a manifold, the general shape of which is a straight cylinder with rectangular base at rounded corners. The manifold has a first coupling end to the air box and a second coupling end to the harness receptacle. The second coupling end completely surrounds the beam and is fixed to it by welding and / or brazing. The first coupling end includes four flaps corresponding to each side of the bundle receptacle; the rounded corners are left devoid of flaps. When attaching the harness to the water boxes, the flaps of the first end of the manifold are crimped onto an outer surface of the corresponding air box. Thus, the fixing is carried out along the flaps with the exception of the corners. This fixing in combination with a seal ensures the tightness of the RAS at the interfaces between collectors and water boxes.
The RAS water boxes are subjected to stresses due to the force exerted by the liquids which pass through the beam to the boxes. This force is directed in a direction collinear with the generator of the right cylinder formed by the receptacle and the crimping flange.
During tests, a detachment of the air box from the collector was observed at the corners. This detachment tends to propagate along the flaps adjoining the corner in question by disjointing them and ultimately results in the loss of sealing of the RAS at these interfaces.
Presentation of the invention
Thus, an objective of the present invention is to overcome one of the drawbacks of the state of the art described above, and in particular to guarantee the fixing between the manifold and the air box.
For this, the present invention provides a crimped article comprising:
- a cover having a corner;
- a crimping flange having at least one corner whose shape corresponds to that of the corner of the cover; and in which part of the corner of the crimp flange is crimped on a surface of the corner of the cover.
Thus, thanks to the crimping of the corners, the initiation of detachment is avoided; it cannot therefore spread subsequently to the crimped portions adjoining the corners.
Other optional and non-limiting features are presented below.
The corner may have a periphery whose shape is an arc of a radius RI.
The surface of the corner may further or alternatively be hollow. The hollow surface is preferably concave. The shape of the concave hollow surface is advantageously chosen so that a line on the concave hollow surface marked by a free edge of the part set with the corner on the corner has a length equal to ± 20% of the length of l 'arc of radius RI forming the periphery of the corner.
In a particular embodiment, the concave hollow surface corresponds to the surface of a sphere of radius R2 equal to ± 20%, preferably to ± 10%, still preferably to ± 5%, of the radius RI, always preferably to approximately RI . Advantageously, a pole of the sphere of radius R2 corresponds to the middle of the arc of a circle of radius RI.
The cover may have an outline of which the corner forms a part, and the crimping flange before crimping a cylindrical wall of which forms part of the corner intended to be crimped and corresponding to the outline of the cover, after crimping the cylindrical wall being crimped to less in part, preferably in whole, around the outline of the cover.
The crimped part of the corner preferably has a constant thickness.
The crimped article may further include a receptacle having an edge having an outer surface and an inner surface, the inner surface of the edge defining an interior space covered by the cover, the edge drawing a shape corresponding to that of the cover, in which the outer surface is in contact with the crimp flange.
The article is in particular an article capable of being subjected to a pressure of which a component exerts a force on the cover on a surface opposite to the surface of the corner on which is crimped the part of the corner, this part of the corner then exerting a force opposite to that exerted by the component of the pressure.
The invention also relates to a heat exchanger comprising a crimped article as described above, the cover being an air box or a water box and the crimping flange a collector.
The invention also relates to a charge air cooler comprising a heat exchanger as described above.
The invention also relates to an exhaust gas recirculation system comprising a heat exchanger as described above.

Description
An article crimped according to the present invention is described below with reference to FIGS. 1 to 7.
The crimped article 1 comprises a cover 2, a crimping flange 3 and possibly a receptacle 4.
The cover 2 (generally comprising side walls and a surface) has a corner 21. The corner 21 generally has two side walls 25 (being in particular part of two adjacent side walls of the cover 2) and a surface 22 (being in particular part of the cover surface 2). Seen from above (that is to say in a direction normal to the surface of the corner 21), the two side walls 25 of the corner 21 form an angle of less than 180 °. The corner can be rounded or chamfered, ie the transition between the two walls, seen from above, is preferably a circular arc having a radius of 4 + 2 mm (forming the periphery 23 of the corner), or a chamfer preferably having a length of 4 + 2 mm. The cover 2 is preferably made of plastic or metal, for example aluminum or steel.
Preferably, the surface of the corner 2 is hollow, preferably concave, on which the crimped part of the corner 311 is crimped.
The corner 2 is preferably rounded off by an arc of a radius RI. In this case, the concave hollow surface advantageously has a shape chosen so that a line on the concave hollow surface 22 marked by a free edge of the part set with the corner 311 on it has a length equal to + 20 % of the length of the arc of a radius RI forming the rounding of the corner. In other words, the material of the crimped portion of the corner 311 has an elongation or compression of + 20% at this level. Preferably, the hollow surface 22 is such that it has a point of lowest level 211 on the rounding of the corner 21 and a point of highest level 212, and regardless of the height at which a cut is made between the lowest level point 211 and the highest level point 212, parallel to a mean plane of the cover 2 passing through its side walls, the distance L2 from the periphery 23 of the corner 2 at this height is:
L 2 = Li + 20%, preferably L 2 = Li + 10%, always preferably L 2 = Li + 5%, more preferably L 2 = Li;
with Li the length of the perimeter of the corner at the height of the lowest level point.
An example of such a shape is illustrated in FIG. 6. This is obtained when the concave hollow surface corresponds to the surface of a sphere of radius R2 equal to + 20%, preferentially to + 10%, still preferentially to + 5%, of the RI radius, always preferably around RI. Advantageously, the lowest level point is located in the middle of the circular arc of radius RI.
The cover 2 can have an outline 24 which includes the corner 21.
Before crimping, the crimping flange 3 has at least one corner 31 whose shape corresponds to that combined of the two side walls 25 of the corner 21 of the cover
2. Corner 31 has two internal walls forming an angle corresponding to that formed by the side walls of the corner 2. The corner can be rounded when the corner is rounded, ie the transition between the two walls of the corner forms a arc of a circle corresponding to that of the corner, preferably of radius 4 + 2 mm. The corner can also be chamfered when the corner is chamfered, i.e. the transition is a chamfer corresponding to that of the corner, preferably of width 4 + 2 mm. Part of the corner of the crimping flange 3 is crimped onto the surface 22 of the corner 21 of the cover 2.
Typically before crimping, the crimping flange 3 can have a cylindrical wall of which part of the corner 311 intended to be crimped and corresponding to the contour 24 of the cover and after crimping a part of the cylindrical wall is crimped at least in part , preferably entirely, on the contour 24 of the cover.
The crimping flange 3 may include a first coupling end 32 to the cover 2, of which the corner 31 is part, and a second coupling end 33 to another element, such as the receptacle 4, in order to fix the cover 2 to this other element.
The first coupling end 32 may include a folded-down portion 321 on the cover 2 after crimping and a contact portion 322 in contact with the side walls of the cover 2. Before crimping, the boundary between the folded-down portion 321 and the contact portion 322 is generally parallel to the mean plane of the first coupling end 32, this limit marks the folding of the folded part 321 relative to the contact part 322. After crimping, the straight line normal to the folded part 321 and that to the part of contact 322 are preferably orthogonal to each other, with the possible exception of the corner (s).
Preferably, the corner 31 is kept in the contact part 322 during crimping and deformed only in the folded part 321.
The crimping flange 3 is preferably made of metal, for example aluminum or steel.
More particularly, the folded-down part 321 of the crimping flange 3 can cover the cover 2 over all or part of its contour 24. Here “the entire contour” must be understood as all along the contour and “part of the contour” as meaning with one or more sections of the contour which are not concerned.
Furthermore, the crimping 322 can be carried out on all (lower part of FIG. 5) or part (upper part of FIG. 5) of the folded-down part 321 of the crimping flange 3.
Of course, the crimping 322 can only be carried out on the entire folded-down part 321 only in the case where the latter covers the cover 2 over its entire contour 24. When the folded-down part 321 is crimped only in part, the crimping 322 is preferably performed at regular intervals.
The outline 24 of the cover 2 is preferably polygonal, for example regularly polygonal, preferably rectangular. The roundness of the corners is not taken into account for the description of the general shape of the outline of the cover, the rounded corners being assimilated to the angles of the general shape. The folded-back part 321 comprises as many parts crimped with 311 corners as the contour 24 of the cover has corners
21.
When the folded part 321 of the crimping flange 3 partially covers the cover 2 along its contour 24, this may for example comprise crimped sections 3221 at the contour 24 of the cover and separated from each other by a space, in particular when before crimping, the first coupling part 32 of the crimping flange 3 has a crenellated shape. The separated sections may have widths, i.e. the dimension taken in the direction of separation, different or equal, preferably equal.
Another example, when the outline 24 of the cover 2 is polygonal, the folded part 321 of the crimping flange 3 comprises sections corresponding to the sides of the polygon and whose lengths are substantially equal to the length of the corresponding sides of the polygon and separated from the parts set with corner 311 by a space. The sections can each be crimped over all or part of their length. If they are crimped over part of their length, crimping is preferably carried out at regular intervals.
When the folded part 321 of the crimping flange 3 covers the cover 2 over its entire contour 24, the crimping can be carried out continuously over the entire contour 24 or over only a part, in particular at regular intervals.
Preferably, the crimped part of the corner 311, if necessary the folded part 321 of the crimping flange 3, has a constant thickness. Thus, the first coupling end 32 of the crimping flange preferably has a constant thickness. However, it is also possible to provide that the entire crimping flange 3 has a constant thickness, i.e. including the second coupling part. In the context of this presentation, the thickness of the crimping flange 3 is its smallest dimension: it is that which is perpendicular to the surface of the cover when once crimped, and possibly that of the receptacle 4, to which the crimping flange 3 is coupled. Preferably, this constant thickness is between 0.8 mm and 3 mm.
The receptacle 4 generally has an edge having an outer surface and an inner surface. The inner surface of the edge delimits an interior space covered by the cover 2. The edge draws a shape corresponding to that of the cover 2. The outer surface of the edge is in contact with the crimping flange 3, in particular with its second coupling end 33 The crimping flange 3 encloses the outer surface and is preferably fixed thereto by soldering and / or welding.
In general, article 1 is an article capable of being subjected to a pressure, a component of which exerts a force Ff on a surface of the cover opposite to the surface of the wedge 21 on which is crimped the crimped part of the corner 311 , this part set with the corner 311 then exerting a force F e opposite to that exerted by the component of the pressure.
Such an article is for example a heat exchanger 1 which conventionally comprises the elements mentioned in the introduction above, in the part describing the state of the art. Thus, the crimping flange 3 corresponds to the collector, the cover 2 to an air box (as in FIG. 7) or a water box and, where appropriate, the receptacle 4 to the casing of the heat exchanger bundle.
Such an exchanger is advantageously used for a charge air cooler or an exhaust gas recirculation system.
