Warning device for an urban public transport vehicle, in particular a tram
The present invention relates to a warning device for an urban public transport vehicle, in particular a tram.
There are already known, in the prior art, audible warning devices, intended to warn pedestrians of the arrival of the public transport vehicle. Pedestrians warned then move away from the passage of the vehicle, in order to avoid in the best of cases a slowing down of the vehicle, and the worst of the cases an emergency stop (being able to endanger the passengers), even an accident implying these pedestrians.
However, some pedestrians are unable to hear such an audible warning device, including the hearing impaired, or those equipped with headphones playing music masking the audible warning.
So that these pedestrians can also be warned, light warning devices are also known in the state of the art. These devices are intended to visually prevent the arrival of the vehicle. Thus, people who may not hear an audible warning are visually warned, the warning light attracting their attention.
The object of the invention is in particular to optimize such a warning device, in order to improve the safety of pedestrians who are hard of hearing or whose hearing is affected.
To this end, the subject of the invention is in particular a warning device for an urban public transport vehicle, in particular a tram, comprising a warning light, characterized in that the warning light is configured to emit a strobe light flashing with a frequency greater than 10 Hz.
On the basis of the invention, it has been found that such a flashing frequency of frequency greater than 10 Hz attracts the attention of pedestrians in a particularly effective manner.
A warning device according to the invention may also include one or more of the following technical characteristics, taken alone or in any technically conceivable combination.
- The warning light is configured to emit downward light rays when it is mounted on the public transport vehicle.
- The light emitted by the warning light has an intensity greater than 900 lux at 1 meter.
- The light emitted by the warning light flashes with a duty cycle of between 45 and 55%.
- The light emitted by the warning light flashes with a duty cycle substantially equal to 50%.
- The warning light includes at least one xenon flash lamp.
- The warning light includes at least one high-power light-emitting diode.
- The warning device comprises an audible warning device, and means for simultaneously activating the audible warning device and the warning device.
The invention also relates to an urban public transport vehicle, in particular a tram, characterized in that it includes a warning device as defined above.
The invention will be better understood on reading the description which follows, given solely by way of example and made with reference to the appended figure, schematically and partially representing a public transport vehicle fitted with a warning device according to an exemplary embodiment of the invention.
Partially shown in the figure is an urban public transport vehicle 10, in particular a tram.
The vehicle 10 includes a warning device 12, intended in particular to warn pedestrians, close to the path of the vehicle 10, of the arrival of this vehicle 10, in order to avoid slowing down, an emergency stop or an accident involving these pedestrians.
The warning device 12 conventionally comprises an audible warning device 14, making it possible effectively to warn pedestrians by a characteristic sound.
However, some pedestrians, who are hard of hearing or have headphones, are unable to hear this sound.
So that such pedestrians are also warned of the arrival of the vehicle 10, the warning device 12 also includes a warning light 16, intended to emit a light signal intended for these pedestrians.
Advantageously, the warning device 12 comprises means 18 for simultaneous activation of the horn 14 and of the light horn 16. It is in fact preferable to warn both by a sound signal and by a light signal of the arrival of the vehicle, to simultaneously warn all pedestrians, hard of hearing or not.
The warning light 16 comprises a strobe, capable of emitting a strobe light 20 towards the front of the vehicle.
Advantageously, the warning light 16 is configured to emit downward light rays. Indeed, it appears that the projection of the strobe light 20 on the ground optimizes its visibility.
According to the invention, the warning light 16 is configured to emit a strobe light flashing with a frequency greater than 10 Hz.
Indeed, it appears that such a frequency greater than 10 Hz is optimal for the light signal to be perceived effectively by pedestrians.
Advantageously, the light 20 emitted by the strobe has an intensity greater than 900 lux at 1 meter. This characteristic further improves the visibility of the light signal 20.
Advantageously, alternatively or in addition to the light intensity defined above, the light emitted by the light strobe flashes with a duty cycle of between 45 and 55%, preferably substantially equal to 50%.
It appears indeed that such a duty cycle is optimal for the light signal to be perceived effectively by pedestrians.
It should be noted that the warning light 16 comprises at least one light-emitting member 22 arranged at the front of the vehicle 10, for example at least one xenon flash lamp and / or at least one high-power light-emitting diode.
Note that the invention is not limited to the embodiment previously described, and could present various variants without departing from the scope of the claims.

1. Warning device (12) for an urban public transport vehicle (10), in particular a tram, comprising a warning light (16), characterized in that the warning light (16) is configured to emit strobe light (20) flashing with a frequency greater than 10 Hz.
