Method of manufacturing a vehicle lining element and associated lining element
The present application relates to a method of manufacturing a vehicle lining element comprising at least one layer of woody material, the method comprising the following steps: - providing a decorative layer comprising at least one layer of woody material, the decorative layer having a front face and a back side, - providing a translucent layer.
In a lining element, it may be desirable to obtain a front face of the illuminated decorative layer in order to display information, to diffuse a mood light or to confer a particular aesthetic to the lining element. In such a case, it is desired that the light source is on the back side of the decor layer so that the light source is not visible from outside the trim element and that can be easily integrated in a structure on which the packing element is arranged. This is referred to as a backlit lining element.
However, such a backlight is difficult to implement when the decorative layer is not translucent, for example when the layer is made of woody material, such as wood.
In this case, it is known, for example, to perforate the decorative layer so that the light passes through the decorative layer through the perforations. However, such perforations are not satisfactory because they affect the appearance of the decorative layer. One of the aims of the invention is to overcome these disadvantages by proposing a method of manufacturing a trim element having a satisfactory appearance and whose decor layer can be backlit locally. To this end, the invention relates to a method of manufacture of the aforementioned type, characterized in that the method further comprises the following steps: - recess of a portion of the decor layer so as to form an opening opening on the front face and the rear face of the decorative layer, - application of a face of the translucent layer on one side of the decorative layer, the translucent layer having a central portion completely covering the opening and a peripheral portion in support against the decorative layer on the contour of the opening, - insertion of a part of the translucent layer in the opening, by applying a pressure between the decor layer and the translucent layer, the peripheral portion of the translucent layer remaining in abutment against the decorative layer on the contour of the opening.
The positioning and then the insertion of the translucent layer in a recess of the layer of woody material by application of a pressure improves the appearance and the behavior of the packing element. In addition, the translucent layer allows diffusion of light through the decorative layer.
According to other characteristics of the manufacturing method, according to the invention: the front face of the decorative layer is intended to be visible from a passenger compartment of the vehicle and the translucent layer is applied to the front face of the decorative layer; the translucent layer is applied to the rear face of the decorative layer; the method further comprises the following steps: providing an insert, applying the insert to the front face of the decor layer, the insert having a central portion completely covering the opening and a portion peripheral against the decorative layer on the contour of the opening, - insertion of a part of the insert into the opening, by applying a pressure between the insert and the decorative layer, the peripheral part the insert remaining resting against the decorative layer on the contour of the opening, the translucent layer has the same thickness as the decorative layer, the pressure is applied by injection of an injection material on the side of the back side of the decorative layer, - the insertion step is carried out in a forming tool, the forming tool having a raised pattern, the portion of the translucent layer in the opening conforming this reason in court In the insertion step, during the insertion step, the decorative layer deforms without breaking, during the insertion step, the translucent layer deforms without breaking. The invention also relates to a vehicle lining element comprising a decorative layer comprising at least one layer of woody material, the lining element being produced by a method as previously described. Other aspects and advantages of the invention will emerge from a reading of the description which follows, given by way of example and with reference to the appended drawings, in which: FIG. 1 is a diagrammatic representation in section of a part of a packing element according to a first embodiment; - Figure 2 is a representation of a step of the manufacturing method of the packing element of Figure 1; - Figure 3 is a representation of a step of the method of manufacturing a packing element, according to a second embodiment; - Figure 4 is a schematic sectional representation of a portion of the packing element according to the second embodiment; - Figure 5 is a representation of a step of the method of manufacturing a packing member according to a third embodiment; - Figure 6 is a schematic sectional representation of a portion of the packing element according to the third embodiment; - Figure 7 is a representation of a step of the method of manufacturing a packing member according to a fourth embodiment; - Figure 8 is a schematic sectional representation of a portion of the packing element according to the fourth embodiment; - Figure 9 is a schematic sectional representation of a portion of a packing element according to a fifth embodiment.
In the description, the terms "internal" and "external" are defined with respect to the orientation of the packing element when disposed in a vehicle, the term "internal" designating what is intended to be turned towards the vehicle body and not visible to the occupants of the vehicle. The term "external" refers to what is intended to be turned inwardly of a passenger compartment of the vehicle. The term "front" refers to the side of an element that faces outward and the term "back" refers to the side of an element that is turned inward.
In what follows, the light is in the visible range, that is to say composed of electromagnetic waves, whose wavelength is generally between 380 nanometers and 780 nanometers. In what follows, the term "translucent" is said to be a body transmitting light, that is to say having a light transmission rate of between 5% and 100%. The term "opaque" is a body that leaves little or no light, that is to say an object having a light transmission rate of less than 5% or even close to 0%. The term "transparent" refers to a body transmitting light by refraction and through which the objects are clearly visible, that is to say a body having a light transmission rate close to 100%. The packing element 1 illustrated in Figure 1 is, for example, a dashboard body, a door panel, a center console, a trim panel or other vehicle element. The outer face of the lining element 1 is intended to be visible from a passenger compartment 2 of the vehicle.
According to the embodiment of FIG. 1, the packing element 1 comprises, from the outside towards the inside, a coating layer 4, an appearance layer 6 comprising a decorative layer 8 and a translucent layer 10 , a translucent support 12 and a light source 14. It is understood that the packing element 1 may comprise more or fewer layers, only the appearance layer 6 comprising a decorative layer 8 and a translucent layer 10 being essential to the invention.
The appearance layer 6 has the shape of the packing element 1 to achieve which is for example a complex three-dimensional shape including a non-developable surface.
According to the invention, the decorative layer 8 comprises a layer of ligneous material 16 and a reinforcing layer 18. In addition, the decorative layer 6 defines a through opening 20 in which is inserted a portion of the translucent layer 10, as this will be described later.
The decorative layer 8 has a front face 22 and a rear face 24. The front face 22 is intended to be turned towards the passenger compartment 2 of the vehicle and the rear face 24 is intended to be turned towards a vehicle body.
The woody material layer 16 comprises, for example, a layer of natural wood or a superposition of layers of wood or reconstituted wood. The layer of woody material 16 has a front face and a rear face. The front face of the layer of ligneous material 14 constitutes the front face 22 of the decorative layer 8 turned towards the passenger compartment 2.
The layer of woody material 16 is thin enough to have a certain flexibility and thus be able to be shaped three-dimensionally. Moreover, as illustrated by FIGS. 1 and 2, the layer of woody material 16 is sufficiently flexible to deform without breaking so as to allow the insertion into the opening 20 of a portion of the translucent layer 10, as will be described later.
The woody material layer 16 is sufficiently thick away from the aperture 20 to be substantially opaque. The wood material layer 16 has, for example, a thickness e measured between the front face and the rear face of the wood material layer 16 between 0.2 mm and 0.8 mm. In this thickness range, the layer of wood material 16 is sufficiently thick, depending on the essence of the woody material and / or a possible dye, to have a light transmission rate of less than or equal to 5%.
The reinforcing layer 18 extends on the rear face of the layer of ligneous material 16. The reinforcing layer 18 is placed on the support 12. The reinforcing layer 18 ensures the cohesion between the support 12 and the layer of ligneous material 16. The reinforcing layer 18 is, for example, glued to the layer of ligneous material 16.
The reinforcement layer 18 makes it possible to reinforce the layer of ligneous material 16 and to avoid the formation of crack and / or cracking in this layer even in the zones of deformation where the layer of ligneous material 16 is deformed by the insertion of the translucent layer. In addition, the reinforcing layer 18 also makes it possible to impart flexibility to the decorative layer to enable the packing element 1 to be shaped. In addition, the reinforcing layer 18 is formed by a flexible material. By flexible means that the reinforcing layer 18 is not rigid and can be shaped. The material of the reinforcing layer 18 is, for example, a textile, such as a woven or non-woven fabric or paper or cardboard or even a plastic film.
In addition, the decorative layer 8 is adapted to be recessed by a cutting tool so as to form the opening 20 and able to be deformed during the insertion of the translucent layer 10. The opening 20 is delimited by a outline 26 on the decorative layer 8. For example, the opening 20 has a rectangular, circular or other shape and passes through the decorative layer 8, that is to say that it is open on the front face 22 and on the back side 24.
In the embodiment of FIG. 1, at the contour 26, the decorative layer 8 has a shoulder 28. In the embodiment of FIG. 1, the shoulder 28 projects from the rest of the layer decor 8 on the side of the rear face 24.
The translucent layer 10 has a central portion 30 completely covering the opening 20 and a peripheral portion 32 bearing against the decorative layer 8 on the contour 26 of the opening 20.
The peripheral portion 32 and the shoulder 28 form an overlap zone 34 between the translucent layer 10 and the decorative layer 8. The shoulder 28 matches the shape of the peripheral portion 32 of the translucent layer 10.
At the overlap zone 34 between the translucent layer 10 and the decorative layer 8, the thickness of the appearance layer 6 is equal to the sum of the thickness of the decorative layer 8 and the thickness of the decorative layer 8. thickness of the translucent layer 10.
In the example, the translucent layer 10 comprises a translucent main layer 36 and a translucent reinforcing layer 38.
In the packing element 1 illustrated in FIG. 1, the front face of the main layer 36 extends in continuity with the front face 22 of the decorative layer 8.
Advantageously, the translucent layer 10 has the same thickness as the decorative layer 8.
For example, the main layer 36 comprises woody material. However, the thickness of the main layer 36, depending on its essence and possible dyeing, is such that the main layer 30 has a light transmission rate of greater than or equal to 5%. For example, the thickness of the main layer 36 is between 0.1 mm and 0.4 mm.
Alternatively, the main layer 36 is made of translucent synthetic material such as poly (methyl methacrylate) (PMMA) or polycarbonate (PC).
The translucent reinforcing layer 38 extends on the rear face of the main layer 36 of the translucent layer 10. The translucent reinforcing layer 38 is disposed on the support 12. The translucent reinforcing layer 38 ensures the cohesion between the support 12 and the main layer 36. The translucent reinforcing layer 38 is for example glued to the main layer 36.
The translucent reinforcing layer 38 makes it possible to reinforce the main layer 36 and to avoid the formation of cracks and / or cracks in this layer even in the overlap area 34. The material of the reinforcing layer 38 is, for example, a textile, such as a woven or non-woven or paper or cardboard or even a plastic film. In addition, in the embodiment of FIGS. 1 and 2, the translucent reinforcing layer 38 is arranged to prevent deformation of the translucent layer 10, during the formation of the packing element 1.
The function of the coating layer 4 is to protect the appearance layer 6 against, for example, ultraviolet radiation which can cause accelerated aging of the layer of ligneous material 16. In addition, the coating layer 4 is translucent so that the layer of wood material 16 and the translucent layer 10 are visible from the passenger compartment 2. The coating layer 4 is, for example, a synthetic resin, such as a varnish, for example, a varnish based on a translucent thermosetting material such as polyurethane or the like. The coating layer 4 in varnish can be for example a high gloss polyurethane varnish. The coating layer 4 may be colored, translucent or transparent.
The support 12 extends on the rear face of the reinforcing layer 18 and the translucent layer. The support 12 is translucent. The support 12 is, for example, made of an injectable material in an injection tool. The support 12 is, for example, substantially rigid and makes it possible to keep the appearance layer 6 in shape and to stiffen the lining element 1. The translucent support 12, for example, made of an injectable plastic material, for example, PC, ABS PC, polyamide (PA), reinforced or not with fibers, especially glass fibers. In one example, the support is as described in document FR 2991936.
The light source 14 is disposed on the back side of the decorative layer 8. The light source 14 is, for example, disposed on the side of the translucent support 12 opposite to the decorative layer 8. The light source 14 is, for example, attached to the vehicle body. The light source 14 is controllable between a lit state and an off state. The light source 14 comprises, for example, at least one bulb and / or a light emitting diode. The light source 14 is adapted to illuminate the rear face 24 of the decorative layer 8 so that the light passes through the decorative layer 8 by the translucent layer 10. The source 14 may comprise a light guide, such as a or a plurality of optical fibers for distributing light on the surface of the lining element 1.
The method of manufacturing the packing element 1 according to the first embodiment described above will now be described.

In the first embodiment, illustrated by FIGS. 1 and 2, a face of the translucent layer 10 is applied to the front face 22 of the decorative layer 8.
The central portion 30 of the translucent layer 10 completely covers the opening 20 and the peripheral portion 32 bears against the decorative layer 8 on the contour 26 of the opening 20. The peripheral portion 32 of the translucent layer 10 is for example, glued to the decorative layer 8 on the contour 26 of the opening 20.
Then, in the injection tool, a pressure is applied between the decorative layer 8 and the translucent layer 10. The pressure is applied by the rear face 24 of the decorative layer 8. Under the effect of this pressure, a portion of the translucent layer 10 is inserted into the opening 20, the peripheral portion 32 of the translucent layer 10 remaining in abutment against the decorative layer 8 on the contour 26 of the opening 20. At the same time, due to from this pressure, the decorative layer 8 deforms without breaking so as to form the shoulder 28.
The first part of the mold 74 is, for example, in contact with the front face of the translucent layer 10. The injection is performed in the molding cavity 78 between the second mold part 76 and the rear face of the decorative layer 8.
For example, this pressure is exerted during the injection of the injection material for forming the support 12, on the side of the rear face 24 of the decorative layer 8.
The coating layer 4 is applied to the front face 22 of the appearance layer 6 after the step of inserting the translucent layer 10 in the decorative layer 8. The coating layer 4 is, for example, applied under liquid form then undergoes a thermosetting step to make it rigid.
The light source 14 is arranged with respect to the rest of the lining element 1 so that the light passes through the decorative layer 8 by the translucent layer 10.
In this first embodiment, the entire front face of the translucent layer 10 is visible from the passenger compartment 2.
During a backlight, the light appears in the passenger compartment 2 through the opening 20 through the translucent layer 10. The shape of the light perceived from the passenger compartment 2 is the shape of the opening 20. the light is not transmitted at the overlap area 34 since part of the opaque decor layer 8 is under the peripheral portion 32.
