WHEEL OF VEHICLE
The present invention generally relates to a vehicle steering wheel mounted on a motor vehicle, and in particular a vehicle wheel with at least one electrical conductor which is at least partially embedded or overmolded in a plastic material such as polyurethane.
It is known in the prior art flywheels with electrical conductors partially embedded in a plastic material. In particular, the document US2007228028 discloses a flywheel with a ground cable, a part of which is overmolded in a foam, and comes out of this foam. Typically, the foam is injection molded under pressure and this arrangement can cause foaming problems when injected under pressure. Indeed, the ground cable must leave the manufacturing mold and it then forms a leakage path so that a foam such as polyurethane is particularly fluid when it is injected.
An object of the present invention is to meet the disadvantages of the documents of the prior art mentioned above and in particular, first of all, to propose a vehicle steering wheel with an electrical conductor which is at least partially overmolded in a material plastic such as polyurethane, but whose manufacture, during the operation of making the plastic part, has reduced risks of leakage of liquid plastic.
For this purpose, a first aspect of the invention relates to a vehicle steering wheel comprising: at least one plastic part made from a fluid base material with a method such as injection, at least one electrical conductor at least a first portion of which is at least partially overmolded by said at least one plastic part, and comprising at least a second portion which extends out of said at least one plastic part, characterized in that the flywheel comprises at least one sheath added around a third portion of said at least one electrical conductor, from said at least one first portion to said at least one second portion, said at least one sheath forming a sealing interface to prevent leakage of base material along said at least one electrical conductor, during overmolding of said at least first portion by said at least a portion of material plastic.
The vehicle steering wheel according to the present implementation comprises at least one electrical conductor which is partially overmolded / embedded in a plastic material, such as polyurethane. The invention proposes to implant a sheath portion around this electrical conductor, in the area straddling the plastic material and the free portion of the electrical conductor. In other words, this zone (the third portion) is opposite the manufacturing mold used to mold the plastic part. As a result, the sheath acts as a sealing interface at the mold and as it has a smooth or continuous external surface without asperities, it prevents leakage along the electrical conductor of liquid or fluid plastic outwardly. . Moreover, it limits, when closing the mold, any risk of aggression mold to the connector.
Advantageously, said at least one sheath is a heat-shrinkable sheath retracted around said at least one electrical conductor. Such a sheath is easy to set up and ensures good contact between the electrical conductor and the inside of the sheath, which further limits the risk of leakage between the sheath and the driver.
Advantageously, said at least one electrical conductor is a bundle comprising at least two cables or electrical wires.
Advantageously, the beam is a cable strand.
Advantageously, the vehicle steering wheel comprises a glue arranged between said at least one sheath and said at least one electrical conductor. Such an adhesive makes it possible to fill the voids or spaces between the electrical conductor and the sheath, in the case where the electrical conductor has asperities or discontinuities on its external surface.
Advantageously, the vehicle steering wheel comprises at least one other plastic part, made before said at least one plastic part, and comprising retaining means arranged to retain and / or position on the steering wheel said at least a second portion, at least during the production of said at least one plastic part. The retaining means on the other plastic part make it possible to simplify the tooling or the manufacturing mold of the plastic part which overmould at least partially the electrical conductor. This also ensures that the driver will be in the correct position when closing the mold which avoids any risk of degradation of the connector or quality defect positioning of the connector.
Advantageously, said at least one other portion of plastic material comprises at least one cavity arranged to receive said at least a second portion.
Advantageously, said at least one other plastic part is made of polyurethane.
Advantageously, the vehicle steering wheel comprises a connector arranged at a free end of said at least a second portion.
Advantageously, the cavity is arranged to receive and retain the connector.
Advantageously, said at least one plastic part is made of polyurethane.
A second aspect of the invention relates to a motor vehicle comprising a vehicle steering wheel according to the first aspect of the invention.
A third aspect of the invention relates to a method of manufacturing a vehicle steering wheel comprising a step of overmolding at least partially at least a first portion of at least one electrical conductor by at least a portion of plastic, made to from a fluid base material with a method such as injection, so that a second portion of said at least one electrical conductor extends out of said at least one plastic portion, the method comprising a step prior to the overmolding step of adding at least one sheath around a third portion of said at least one electrical conductor, from said at least a first portion to said at least a second portion, so as to form with said at least one less a sheath a sealing interface to prevent leakage of base material along said at least one electrical conductor, during overmoulding of said at least a first portion by said at least one plastic part.
In other words, the third aspect of the invention relates to a method of manufacturing a vehicle steering wheel according to the first aspect of the invention. Other features and advantages of the present invention will appear more clearly on reading the following detailed description of an embodiment of the invention given by way of non-limiting example and illustrated by the appended drawings, in which: - Figure 1 shows a schematic view of a steering wheel according to the invention, with an electrical conductor which is partially overmolded in a plastic material; - Figure 2 shows a section of the steering wheel of Figure 1, at the electrical conductor in its portion overmolded by the plastic material.
FIG. 1 represents a front view of a flywheel according to the invention, which comprises a plastic part 10, and another plastic part 40. An electrical conductor 20 is partially overmolded in the plastic part 10, and opens above the other plastic part 40, for housing a connector 24 attached to a free end of the electrical conductor 20 in a cavity 41 formed in the other plastic part 40.
The electrical conductor 20 thus comprises a first portion overmolded or embedded in the plastic part 10 and a second free portion, which extends out of the plastic part 10. In addition, the electrical conductor 20 comprises two individual conductors 22 and 23 which supply heating resistors arranged in the rim of the steering wheel, for example, these conductors can be protected by insulation sheaths not shown.
The plastic part 10 is made with a molding operation. It is conceivable to use an injectable polymer in liquid or fluid form, such as polyurethane for example. When performing the molding operation of the plastic portion 10, the electrical conductor 20 must pass through the manufacturing mold, which causes risks of leakage along the electrical conductor 20. To limit this risk leakage, the invention proposes to add a sheath 30, a length between 5 and 50mm, around the electrical conductor 20, locally at the electrical conductor portion 20 facing the manufacturing mold. That is, the sheath 30 is in contact with at least one of the cavities of the mold during the injection of the plastic portion 10, a first end of said sheath 30 being positioned in the cavity receiving the part of plastic material 10 and the other end opening to the outside of the cavity.
Thus, a third portion extending from the first portion of the electrical conductor 20 overmolded to the second portion of the free electrical conductor 20 is covered by the sheath 30. It is possible to envisage, for example, a heat-shrinkable sheath that is easy to position at good place, and then retracted around the electrical conductor 20 under the effect of heating.
To facilitate manufacturing operations and in particular that of molding the plastic part 10, it is intended to provide retaining means in the cavity 41 of the other plastic part 40 (which is made before the material part). plastic 10). The retaining means are arranged to retain the electrical conductor 20 and / or the connector 24 in the cavity 41, which improves the molding operation of the plastic part 10 because the position of the electrical conductor 20 is controlled.
Figure 2 shows a section of the steering wheel of Figure 1, along a broken line (ll-ll). In this figure, only the conductors 22 23 and the plastics 10 and 40 are shown for clarity. Thus, the other components generally used for the construction of a steering wheel such as armature or sheathing do not appear.
This cut is thus made for the left part of the break at the portion overmolded in the plastic material 10 of the electrical conductor 20, and in the right part of the break, at the other part of the electrical conductor 20 opening at on top of the other part of plastic 40.
At the overmolded part of the electrical conductor 20 (left part of FIG. 2), the sheath 30 thus seals between itself and the electrical conductor 20.
At the portion opening above the other plastic part 40 (right part of Figure 2), the sheath 30 still seals between itself and the electrical conductor 20, but also: - between it same and a manufacturing mold (which would come into contact with the sheath 30 and the other plastic part 40 from above); - Between itself and the other part of plastic material 40 (in which the sheath 30 may be partially housed via a pre-existing groove for example).
The electrical conductor 20 thus comprises the two unitary conductors 22 and 23 which are wound in a conventional manner on one another spirally to form for example a strand. Such winding leads to an outer surface of the irregular electrical conductor and with asperities. However, the sheath 30 covers the electrical conductor 20 and has in turn a smooth and continuous outer surface, which allows to form an effective sealing interface with the manufacturing mold to limit leakage.
There is also provided a filler material between the sheath 30 and the electrical conductor 20 to fill the voids or internal spaces between these two components. Thus, this filler blocks the escape paths in the sheath 30 itself. An adhesive 31 may be provided, for example, which may already be present on the thermoformable sheath before it is positioned on the connectors.
It will be understood that various modifications and / or improvements obvious to those skilled in the art can be made to the various embodiments of the invention described in the present description without departing from the scope of the invention defined by the appended claims.
