In an independent aspect, the invention is based on the idea of positioning a package with respect to a folded airbag attached to a module holder so that at least two surface portions or at least the respective outer ends surface parts protrude from the airbag. It is also possible to design a surface portion with a dedicated extension or dedicated extensions, respectively, which both protrude from the width of the dedicated surface portion. It is also conceivable that a surface portion comprising two extensions is configured symmetrically with respect to an axis of symmetry extending transversely to the width of the surface portion. A respective overlapping area of the two surface portions arranged to overlap, is preferably formed by two extensions of two surface portions, in particular two parts of adjacent juxtaposed or folded surfaces of the package.

The welding can be performed by means of ultrasonic welding and / or hot welding. The connection and welding, respectively, of at least two surface portions in the area of overlap with the airbag can also be achieved by said welding processes. During welding, firstly, a weld spot may lead to connecting the outer ends of the surface portions to the airbag and / or connecting at least two surface portions to each other in the overlap area. In addition, several welding points can be provided. Welding by means of a welding line or several welding lines is also possible. It can be provided in the method according to the invention that the individual welds are made successively. One can also imagine the simultaneous welding of all the overlapping areas and / or the outer ends of the surface parts on the airbag. For this purpose, an automatic welding process is preferred.
Since the packaging and the dimensions of the package no longer have to be configured according to the dimensions of the bolts of the module holder, the packaging material can be saved above all. In addition, the method according to the invention offers the advantage that the threading or the complicated installation of a strap around the bolt is dispensed with. Since the fixing of the package is carried out directly on the folded airbag and / or on the package itself, it does not cause any state of relief, as is the case during the previous threading on the bolts of a module holder. The volume of the folded airbag is thus not unnecessarily increased. As a result, a tight package is maximized and reduced in volume of the folded airbag by the method according to the invention.
Within the scope of another aspect, the invention is based on the idea of mentioning a packaged airbag, manufactured especially according to a previously mentioned method according to the invention. This results in advantages similar to those already explained with respect to the embodiment previously described according to the invention.

Figure 2 shows a package 20 according to the invention for an airbag. The package comprises four surface portions 21 constituting a cross shape. The individual surface portions 21 are substantially perpendicular to each other. The lengths L of the surface portions 21 extend from the center M of the package to a respective outer edge 22 of the surface portion 21. The outer edges 22 are spaced at the maximum from the center M of the package 20.
Two respective opposing surface portions 21, such as the upper and lower surface portions 21, are arranged axially symmetrically with respect to the longitudinal axis L extending through the left and right surface portions 21. Left and right surface portions 21 are also opposed to each other, these two surface portions 21 being arranged axially symmetrical with respect to the longitudinal axes extending through the upper and lower surface portions.
According to Figure 2, each of the outer ends 23 of the surface portions 21 comprises two extensions 24. The extensions 24 have a curved shape. It is obvious that the geometry of the package, in particular the length L of the individual surface portions 21, can be dimensioned independently of the length of the bolts 32. The placing of the outer ends 23 of the surface portions 21 on the bolts 32 is not necessary according to the method of the invention. The tension of the package 20 is constant throughout the packaging process so that no expansion of the packaged airbag 31 can take place.
Since the overlap areas 33 and thus the areas of the surface portions 21 to be welded together and respectively the surface portions 21, with the airbag 31, are deployed regularly, the tension on the packaging resulting from the connection surface parts are regularly distributed. The connection or welding of the surface portions 21 in the overlap area 33 may be embodied by one or more welds.
Figure 4 shows another embodiment of a packaged airbag 30 according to the invention. The package 20 is strip-shaped and thus comprises two surface portions 21 from the center of the strip.
