DESCRIPTION
Modular motorcycle helmet with automatic chin guard closure.
Object of the invention
The present invention consists of a modular motorcycle helmet, provided with a chin guard closure system that is automatically activated in the event of a risk of impact or accident.
The present invention finds its scope in the motorcycle helmet manufacturing industry.
Background of the state of the art
It is known to all, such as the motorcycle accessories market, includes a multitude of motorcycle helmet models depending on the design or material, but we can catalog them into three main types based on the level of protection they offer. Thus, the usual thing is that as they are safer, they will be more uncomfortable, although precisely the state of the art has evolved in recent years, towards more comfortable solutions for the user without compromising their safety.
Thus, open helmets are the most comfortable and the most aesthetic, so they are preferred by many drivers, especially in summer, when the heat is tightened. However, they are very unsafe so they are expected to be retired because they do not fulfill their function. At present, they are only allowed to carry as a safety measure on mopeds due to the poor protection of the head area most frequently damaged in accidents.
The integral helmets are the safest, since due to their shape they offer protection for both the head and the face and the jaw, so that they completely protect the motorbike driver from injuring these vulnerable areas in a fall. That is, they totally protect the face and head, and incorporate a transparent visor that can be opened or closed to the driver's taste, likewise, for their ventilation they incorporate several air intakes in and out.

Within this general category of integral helmets, we can find many types of helmet depending on the materials with which they are manufactured: thermoplastic, fiber, etc. Its main drawbacks are the heat and the sensation of claustrophobia.
Finally, the modular helmets are very similar to the integral ones, with the difference that the part that protects the chin can be opened. In this way, with this type of helmet you can win in comfort, although it may be at the expense of the safety of the users, who can receive an impact with the raised chin guard. That is, its advantages and disadvantages lie in those of the previous two, when used according to open or integral mode.
Obviously, before opting for one type of helmet or another, it must be taken into account that when you travel by motorcycle, this protection element can make the difference between a minor or serious accident in terms of its consequences.
According to Dietmar Otte, in his study on the percentage distribution by areas of the impacts that the head suffers in a motorcycle accident, most of the impacts occur in the area of the jaw and chin, around 35% . There is also an important 10% that occurs right in the front area, at the height of the visor that provides some protection. In this way, the risk of hitting us in the frontal area is almost 50%, so wearing an integral or modular helmet like the one described in this invention is very necessary, if we really want to be protected.
From the types of helmets described, and once the importance of protecting the chin as an area of the head that is usually more affected when motorcycle accidents occur, is the "Modular helmet for motorcyclists with automatic chin guard closure" with respect to the state of the art, it proposes a modular or collapsible helmet whose chin guard in case the user uses it in open mode, closes automatically in the event of a possible fall or risk of accident, providing the following advantages;

a) In case of fall the chin guard would close automatically, guaranteeing the protection of the chin in an equivalent way to an integral helmet.
b) In case of a fall and once the chin guard is closed, the lowering system complements the chin fixation system so that it does not open so easily in case of a strong impact.
c) If we circulate with the chin guard raised with this system, we do not run the risk of accidentally or even partially closing it while driving, unlike conventional modular helmets that could leave us without vision.
d) Greater versatility, by making an open and safe or closed use compatible to the user's liking, even as a conventional modular helmet if desired, both for the driver and his companion.
e) Manufacturing at low cost and without involving the incorporation of a relevant weight, important in the case of modular helmets that are the heaviest in the market.
EXPLANATION OF THE INVENTION
As an explanation of the "Modular helmet for motorcyclists with automatic chin guard closure", it consists of a modular type helmet designed for use in motorcycles, whose folding chin guard incorporates in its fastening and turning elements on the main body of the helmet, the following elements;
a) Two torsion springs housed around the system of fixation and rotation of the chin guard with respect to the main body of the helmet, which guarantee the descent and butt closure of the mentioned chin guard, except for blocking in the position of full opening.
b) Locking mechanism housed on at least one of the two axes of rotation of the chin guard with respect to the main body of the helmet, as a ratchet that retains the tendency to close the chin in the position of complete chin opening. same on the main body of the helmet by the effect of the referred springs.
c) Elastic cord for unlocking or releasing the ratchet in the full opening position of the chin guard, joined by its upper end to the end of the aforementioned ratchet so that when pulled it moves, overcoming the force of a compression spring and making that

chin guard I find no stop or obstacle in its natural movement of rotation around the main body of the helmet.
Thus, to activate the unlocking and closing the chin guard, it can be done manually by the user who wishes to use the helmet in closed mode or, automatically, when the user is faced with a situation of accident risk in the that the abrupt movement of the motorist's fall moves the tiron over the cord that causes the chin guard to close, as a previous step to breaking the cord itself that prevents the biker's path from being affected.
DESCRIPTION OF THE DRAWINGS
To complement the description that is being made and in order to help a better understanding of the characteristics of the invention, according to a preferred example of practical realization of the same, a set of drawings is accompanied as an integral part of said description. where, with an illustrative and non-limiting nature, the following has been represented:
Figure 1.- Shows a main elevation view of "Modular helmet for motorcyclists with automatic chin guard closure" in the position of an open and locked chin guard.
Figure 2.- Shows a main elevation view of "Modular helmet for motorcyclists with automatic chin guard closure" in closed chin guard position.
Figure 3.-Detail elevation view of the closing mechanism of "Modular helmet for motorcyclist with automatic chin guard" in closed position.
Figure 4.-Detail elevation view of the closing mechanism of "Modular helmet for motorcyclists with automatic chin guard closure" in open position.
Figure 5.-Detail elevation view of the closing mechanism of "Modular helmet for motorcyclists with automatic chin guard closure" in the unlocked position to activate its closure.
In the mentioned figures the following constituent elements can be highlighted;
1. Main body.
2. Folding chin guard.

8. Attachment to motorcycle type carabiner.
9. Fixing point of chin guard torsion spring on the chin guard itself.
10. Point of interlocking of the chin guard in the mobile part of the locking mechanism.
EXAMPLE OF PREFERRED EMBODIMENT SUPPORTED IN FIGURES
In view of Figures 1-5, it can be seen, as an example of a preferred embodiment of the "Modular helmet for motorcyclists with automatic chin guard closure", as it can be carried out using a main body 1 of modular helmet conventional provided with the corresponding folding chin guard 2 that incorporates the following accessories in the fixing and turning elements between both elements;
a) An elastic unlocking cord 4 which also incorporates at its upper end a compression spring 6 with termination both in movable part of locking mechanism 5, while the other lower end of the spring 6 is fixed to the hull 1, for the purpose of ensure a locked position in the complete opening of the chin guard 2, except for deactivation tone on the said cord 4 that compresses the compression spring 6, causing the turning movement that allows the chin guard 2 to close does not find the end of the moving part of the locking mechanism 5 in its path.
b) Torsion spring 3 of chin guard 2, which guarantees the automatic closing of the mentioned chin guard 2 in the unlocked position of the mobile part 5.
From the elements described, the user of the helmet to use it would have to fix the unlocking elastic cord 4 at its free end using a conventional carabiner 8 to a suitable motorcycle element.

So once this operation is done, the conduction can be started in the two possible positions of the chin guard;
1. Chin guard 2 completely closed for which it will be necessary to force the closure of the chin guard by making a small tiron on elastic cord unlocking 4.
2. Chin guard 2 completely open, so that in normal driving movements, the elasticity of the elastic unlocking cord 4 will prevent the chin guard closing automatically. However, when control of the motorcycle is lost and we separate from it more than normal, the elastic unlocking cord 4 would be activated by pulling it and activating the automatic closure of the chin guard 2, just before the mentioned cord 4 is broken by its breaking point, thus avoiding the relevant pulling of the helmet and can modify the biker's trajectory.
Obviously using a carabiner 8 at the free end of the elastic unlocking cord 4, the use of the helmet object of the invention is not linked to a particular motorcycle, but it is possible to make use of the invention on different motorcycles interchangeably.
Alternatively, it is evident that the elastic unlocking cord 4 can be conceived, so that it is fixed to a motorcycle using the connecting or disconnecting element at the opposite end that is fixed to the helmet. This could incorporate a handle on the handlebar from which to close the chin guard without having to keep the handlebar with one hand, in case we want to do it as the motorcycle in motion.
Regarding the drive systems for ratchet release or activation of the chin guard closure, they will be subject to modification, so that instead of being totally mechanical, they can be based on electromagnets, by Gauss canon, electric motor and "endless" screw , or electric motor supported in toothed sector, without this implying an alteration to the essentiality of the invention.

Likewise, regarding the systems of detection of imminent risk of accident, they can incorporate another electronic technology of generalized application in the world of the automotive or nautical, that also guarantee in a complementary or alternative way, the signal of automatic activation of the closure of the chin guard and even other additional benefits, without implying an alteration to the essentiality of the invention. Among the aforementioned technologies that would involve the corresponding installation on the motorcycle, it is worth mentioning those mentioned below;
^ ABS braking system, if the motorcycle has them, although combined with other activation mechanisms, the chin guard will be activated when the ABS comes into operation.
^ AIR-BAG system, if the motorcycle has them, although combined with other activation mechanisms, the chin guard will be activated when the airbag comes into operation.
^ Through a three-axis accelerometer using an advanced technology mobile phone that confirms angles and speed of inclination with respect to some reference, with the possibility of sending distress message with location.
^ Lack of pressure in footrests and seat jointly.
^ By cutting in the electric union using the "man in water" system.
It is not considered necessary to make this description more extensive so that any expert in the field understands the scope of the invention and the advantages that derive from it.
The materials chosen for the manufacture of the different elements described, dimensions, joining elements, etc., will be subject to modification as long as this does not imply an alteration to the essentiality of the invention.
The terms in which this report has been written should always be taken in a broad and non-limiting sense.
