Technical area
The present invention relates to the field of watchmaking. It relates, more particularly, a watch component. Preferably, the invention relates to a dial, comprising a plate pierced with at least one opening for passing or displaying means for displaying a time information, the plate being intended to be integral with the timepiece and at least partially covering a timepiece movement.
State of the art
The dial is naturally an essential element of the aesthetics of a watch, since it constitutes the essence of the normally visible face. There are several ways to bring fancy or particular styles to the dials. We know, for example, the guilloche which is a technique to achieve on the dial, extremely varied relief drawings composed of lines that intersect, intertwine, to obtain a decorative effect.
It is also known to produce on the dial decorative or figurative paintings. To do this, enamel is a known technique, but difficult to master, because the cooking operation can ruin the efforts of the enameller. In addition, there are only sixty colors to make enamels, which is insufficient to reproduce with much nuance and precision, the works of great masters or to make new ones. It is also possible to make paintings on mother-of-pearl dials, but without it being technically possible to make very fine drawings.
The present invention aims to propose a new type of dial to make dials, possibly painted, with colors and finesse that current techniques can not achieve.
Disclosure of the invention
More specifically, the invention relates to a timepiece dial as proposed in the claims. The invention also relates to a method of manufacturing such a dial. More generally, the invention also relates to a watch component having a surface covered with a fabric web.
Brief description of the drawings
Other details of the invention will appear more clearly on reading the description which follows, given with reference to the accompanying drawing in which:<tb> figs. 1a and 1b <SEP> are respectively schematic illustrations in top view and in side view, of a first embodiment of the invention, and<tb> figs. 2a and 2b <SEP> are respectively schematic illustrations in top view and in side view, of a second embodiment of the invention.
Embodiment of the invention
There is shown in the figures, a timepiece dial according to the invention, comprising a plate 10 pierced with at least one opening 12 to pass or see means for displaying a time information. According to the illustrated example, this opening 12 is located at the center of the dial, which is circular in shape, and the display means may be needles, the barrel of which can pass through the central opening 12. The opening 12 could also be a window to see a display disc disposed under the dial. The plate 10 is intended to be fixed to the movement of the timepiece, typically by means of dial feet 13 whose plate 10 is provided. The plate 10 serves to cover at least partially a movement housed in the box. The plate 10 may be made of any rigid material, preferably metal, such as brass, for example. In known manner, the plate 10 may be provided with dial feet.
In order to allow the creation of decorations with original aesthetics, the plate 10 of the dial according to the invention is covered with a cloth fabric 14. Preferably, this fabric 14 is primed to receive paint. The fabrics used for the painting may be based on hemp, flax, cotton, synthetic fibers or mixtures of these fibers. We will not describe here the different types of primers that can be used because they are well known in the artistic field. Thus, advantageously, the fabric 14 covering the dial, is painted. Of course, any type of painting can be envisaged, but the interest of painting on a canvas 14, is that it is possible to achieve particularly accurate patterns or illustrations, with all the colors that offer the painting to oil or acrylic paint for example,
[0009] A priori, one could think that the canvas 14, as for a canvas generally used to make an artistic painting, must be stretched on a frame. Such an implementation would be difficult to apply in the field of watchmaking. Indeed, the production of small size fabrics, while controlling the tension of the fabric, especially over the long term, and the realization of openings to allow access to hourly information while maintaining this tension, are difficulties that will discourage the skilled person.
However, as will be understood later, the canvas 14 of the dial according to the invention is not tensioned, but arranged and fixed with reference to the plate 10, without significant tension on the canvas. In any case, the support on the plate makes it possible not to have to stretch the fabric to obtain a mechanical strength.
More particularly, the described dial includes an inner flange 16 around the opening 12, and an outer flange 18 located on the periphery of the plate 10. The fabric 14 is shaped to take place in the surface defined between the flanges 16 and 18. This avoids folds on the fabric 14. Preferably, if it is defined as being the upper side of the dial, the side of the plate 10 receiving the fabric 14, the upper surface of the flanges 16 and 18 is flush with the 14. This may be the inner rim 16 or the outer rim 18, but preferably the two flanges 16 and 18, to give an appearance of a continuous surface.
In a first embodiment illustrated in FIGS. 1a and 1b, the inner flanges 16 and outer 18 are integral with the plate 10. They can be integrally or reported, but they form a whole with the plate 10. In this variant, we can stick the canvas 14 on the plate 10 to ensure its fixing, after positioning it correctly. Naturally, in this case, the dimensions of the fabric 14 are adjusted to the dimensions of the surface defined between the flanges 16 and 18, so that the bonding is done cleanly, without overflow of the fabric 14 on the flanges.
In a second embodiment illustrated in FIGS. 2a and 2b, at least one of the inner and outer flanges 16, preferably both, are formed by a separate ring of the plate 10. Each ring defines an annular gap between itself and the plate 10 in which place a portion of the web 14. The annular gap is regular and, to obtain a tightening of the portion of the web 14 located in the gap between the plate 10 and the ring, the inner diameter of the outer ring is slightly smaller than the outer diameter of the plate 10 + 2 times the thickness of the cloth 14. The outer diameter of the inner ring is slightly greater than the inside diameter of the opening 12-2 times the thickness of the cloth 14 The dimensions described here for a circular dial and a circular opening 12 can be directly adapted for dials and openings of various shapes.
Advantageously, to promote the introduction of the portion of the web 14 in the interstices, this portion has slots essentially oriented towards the center of the web 14. The fabric 14 can thus bend without creating extra thickness in the interstice.
For the realization of a dial with a painted canvas 14, it will be advantageous to proceed according to the following steps. We will have a canvas 14 ready to receive paint. The canvas 14 is larger than the dial to achieve. On the primed canvas 14, we realize the painting that will illustrate the dial. The canvas 14 is then arranged according to the convenience of the painter.Once the painting done; the fabric 14 is cut to the chosen dimensions. The fabric 14 cut on the plate 10 is placed and fixed.
Preferably, the cutting step of the fabric 14 is performed before the paint is completely dry, which avoids cracks thereof.
As explained above, in the first embodiment, the attachment of the fabric 14 to the plate 10 is performed by gluing.
In the second embodiment, the fastening operation of the fabric 14 is performed by adjusting the inner and outer edges and by wedging the fabric 14 between the inner and outer edges and the plate 10. Before this fixing operation slits can be made in the portions of the fabric 14 intended to take place in the interstices, in order to promote their placement.
Thus is proposed a dial and a method of producing such a dial, which allows to perform drawings, including paints, of a quality both in terms of fineness and color, remarkable and superior to known techniques until then for the realization of dials.
The skilled person may consider adaptations, but without departing from the scope of protection defined by the independent claims. Particularly, the skilled person may consider adapting the above teaching to have a canvas on a watch composting, having a surface assimilated to the plate 10 above. It is thus possible to arrange a fabric on an element of the frame of the movement, bridge or platinum, or on a rocker or on a board of a wheel or a mobile.
The watch component whose surface is covered with a cloth fabric, advantageously painted, may be provided with an opening, for the passage of an axis, for example, if the component is intended to be mobile, or for the passage of a flange or a screw, if the component is intended to be fixed. The canvas-covered surface may also not be pierced and the portion with the opening may be adjacent to the canvas-covered surface, or may be pinched at the outer edge.
