Field [0001] The report refers to electronic devices for supplying steam. More particularly, but not exclusively, the report refers to electronic devices for supplying steam such as electronic cigarettes. Background [0002] Electronic steam delivery devices are typically cigarette-sized and work by allowing the user to inhale a nicotine vapor from liquid storage by applying suction force to a mouthpiece. Some electronic steam delivery devices have an airflow sensor that is activated when a user applies the suction force and causes a heating coil to heat and vaporize the liquid. Electronic devices for steam delivery include electronic cigarettes. summary [0003] In one embodiment, an electronic steam delivery device is provided comprising a battery assembly and a vaporizer, wherein the battery assembly comprises a power cell and a computer, the vaporizer is removably connectable to the battery assembly and the computer comprises a computer processor and a memory; where the computer is configured to detect whether the vaporizer is connected to the battery assembly without the use of an electronic device to deliver steam to a user; and to remain substantially at rest until the vaporizer is connected to the battery assembly. [0004] This has the advantage that the technical interaction between the computer and the steam supply device allows the computer to distinguish between a connected state of the vaporizer and an unconnected state of the vaporizer. The device can then be configured accordingly. [0005] Sleep mode can be a low energy mode. [0006] Staying in a low energy sleep mode, the device remains active and consumes very little energy. This has the advantage that the device can be changed, for example, during production, and remains in a rest mode until purchased and used by a consumer. The device will therefore have sufficient energy remaining to be used without first charging the device. This also provides an efficient use of energy and minimizes energy loss. The device has an added advantage of being able to stay in a low power mode without the additional use of a switch to disable and enable. [0007] The computer can be configured to enter a connected mode when the vaporizer is connected to the battery mount. [0008] The electronic device for supplying steam can use less energy in sleep mode than in connected mode. [0009] Advantageously, once the vaporizer is connected, the connected mode is a state of greater energy to allow faster activation when the device is activated by a user. [0010] The computer can be configured to wake from sleep mode after a predetermined rest time to determine if the vaporizer is connected to the battery mount. In addition, the computer can be configured to enter sleep mode if a vaporizer is not connected to the battery assembly. [0011] The computer can be configured in such a way that the time between entering consecutive sleep modes when the vaporizer is not connected is less than the resting time. [0012] The device can enter a low energy sleep mode, then be triggered to test the connection before quickly re-entering low energy sleep mode. This keeps energy usage low while in a sleep mode and between sleep modes. [0013] The rest time can have a value between 0.5 and 5 seconds. [0014] The battery assembly may additionally comprise a capacitor; where the computer is configured to first charge the capacitor and then detect whether a vaporizer is connected to the battery assembly by measuring whether the capacitor is discharged. In addition, the computer can be configured to enter a sleep mode when the capacitor is not substantially completely discharged. In addition, the computer can be configured to enter a connected mode when the capacitor is substantially completely discharged. In other words, the computer can be configured to determine that the vaporizer is not connected to the battery assembly when the capacitor is not substantially completely discharged. In addition, the computer can be configured to determine that the vaporizer is connected to the battery assembly when the capacitor is substantially completely discharged. [0015] The battery assembly may additionally comprise a first and a second battery assembly connection terminals, and the vaporizer may comprise a first and a second vaporizer connection terminals, such that the vaporizer is connected to the assembly of battery when the first battery mount connection terminal is connected to the first vaporizer connection terminal and the second battery assembly connection terminal is connected to the second vaporizer connection terminal; where the capacitor is connected in parallel with the first and second battery mount connection terminals. [0016] The battery assembly may additionally comprise a resistor in series with the capacitor; where the capacitor and resistor are in parallel with the first and second battery mount connection terminals. [0017] The computer can be configured to send a pulse and the capacitor can be charged for a period of time equal to the pulse width. [0018] The electronic device for supplying steam may additionally comprise a transistor; where the pulse is sent to the transistor and the transistor opens the current from the energy cell to the capacitor for a period of time equal to the width of the pulse. [0019] In another embodiment, an electronic device for supplying steam is provided comprising a battery assembly and a vaporizer, wherein the battery assembly comprises a power cell and a computer; the vaporizer is removably connectable to the battery assembly; the computer comprises a computer processor, a memory and an input and output medium; and the computer is configured in use to detect whether the vaporizer is connected to the battery mount. [0020] As used here, the term steam includes an aerosol and other fluid streams for delivery to a user by the electronic device for delivering steam. Brief Description of the Figures [0021] For a better understanding of the description and to show how example modalities can be put into practice, reference will now be made to the accompanying Figures, in which: Figure 1 is a side perspective view of an electronic device for steam supply ; Figure 2 is an exploded side view of the electronic steam delivery device of Figure 1; Figure 3 is a sectional side view through the device of Figure 1; Figure 4 is a side perspective view of an electronic device for supplying steam with a separate nozzle and body; Figure 5 is a side perspective view of an electronic steam delivery device with separate nozzle, vaporizer and battery assembly; Figure 6 is a sectional side view through the electronic steam delivery device of Figure 4 with connected nozzle and body; Figure 7 is a sectional side view of a battery assembly having a capacitor; Figure 8 is a sectional side view of a battery assembly having a capacitor and a resistor; Figure 9 is a sectional side view of a battery assembly having a capacitor, a resistor and a transistor; and Figure 10 is a circuit diagram for the battery assembly in Figure 9. Detailed Description [0022] In relation to Figures 1 to 3, an electronic device for supplying steam is also referred to here as an electronic device for smoking, comprising a nozzle 2 and a body 4. The electronic device for supplying steam has a similar shape that of a conventional cigarette. Both the nozzle 2 and the body 4 are cylindrical and are configured to connect coaxially to each other in order to form the conventional cigarette shape. The nozzle 2 is connectable to the body 4 at a first end of the nozzle and has an air outlet 6 and a second end. The body 2 comprises a battery assembly 8, comprising a power cell 10 and a computer 12 on a circuit board 14, wherein the power cell 10 is connected to the computer 12. The computer 12 comprises a computer processor 16, a memory 18 and an input and output arrangement 20. In this example, computer 12 is a microcontroller. The computer 12 is configured to control and interface with the other electrical components of the battery assembly 8, comprising the power cell 10, through the input-output arrangement 20. [0023] The nozzle 2 comprises a liquid bottle 22 and a vaporizer 24 having a heating coil 26. For example, the vaporizer 24 is in fluid communication with the liquid bottle 22. The nozzle 2 is connectable to the battery assembly 8 by a screw thread, where a connection of the battery assembly 8 and the nozzle 2 connects a first battery mounting terminal 28 to a first vaporizer terminal 30 and a second battery mounting terminal 32 to a second vaporizer terminal 34, forming an electrically conductive contact in both cases. The vaporizer terminals 30, 34 are electrically connected in parallel to the vaporizer 24. [0024] The configuration described here of computer 12 comprises the computer operating according to a computer program stored in its memory 18 and accessed by its computer processor 16. [0025] To maximize the life of the charge in the energy cell 10, the computer 12 is configured to detect whether the vaporizer 24 is connected to the battery assembly 8, the connection state, and to enter a low sleep mode if vaporizer 24 is not connected. For example, the sleep mode can comprise the computer 12 by consuming minimal energy and performing no processing. A period during which the computer 12 is in sleep mode is referred to here as the sleep time. In addition, if computer 12 determines that vaporizer 24 is connected, computer 12 is configured to enter a connected mode, which is of higher energy than the low energy mode. [0026] In addition, detecting the connection status can comprise computer 12 by periodically checking that vaporizer 24 is connected to the battery assembly 8. If computer 12 determines that vaporizer 24 is not connected, computer 12 enters sleep mode for two seconds. After the rest time, the computer 12 starts and immediately and quickly checks again for a vaporizer connection. Again, if the vaporizer is not connected, computer 12 goes into sleep mode for another two seconds. The time that the computer 12 is turned on is extremely short compared to the rest time, so the circuit remains predominantly in a low energy mode, thus conserving energy. During the rest time, no checks are made to determine if the vaporizer 24 is connected. A user may take a few seconds to assemble the device, connecting the vaporizer 24 and the battery assembly 8, so the connection of the vaporizer 24 can be easily established by computer 12 before the user uses the device. [0027] The activation of the computer 12 can, for example, comprise the computer 12 entering a triggered mode different from the sleep mode and the connection mode. [0028] Computer 12 checking whether vaporizer 24 is connected to battery assembly 8 can, for example, understand computer 12 to send an electrical pulse to battery mounting terminals 28, 32. For example, computer 12 can control the power cell 10 in order to provide a pulse of current to the first battery mount terminal 28 and can measure the current reaching the second battery mount 32, for example, using a digital multimeter from the battery mount 8. The digital multimeter it is referred to as 44 in the circuit diagram of Figure 10. Additionally, if the vaporizer 24 is connected, the digital multimeter reads a current reaching the second battery mounting terminal 32 through the vaporizer 24 and provides information to the computer 12 indicating this. [0029] Figures 4 to 6 show another example of an electronic device for supplying steam. This device is similar to the one shown in Figures 1 to 3, however in this example the vaporizer 24 is not part of the nozzle 2. The nozzle 2 contains a bottle of liquid 22 and is connectable to the vaporizer 24. The vaporizer 24 has a heating coil 26 and additionally a wick 36. For example, wick 36 may be a mesh wick. The nozzle 2 and the vaporizer 24 are configured to connect with each other in such a way that the wick 36 acts to communicate liquid from the liquid bottle 22 to the vaporizer 24. The interaction between the vaporizer 24 and the battery assembly 8 to conserve energy is as described above. [0030] Additional examples of how, in the devices of Figures 1 to 6, the connection of the vaporizer 24 to the body 4 can be detected by the computer 12 are now described with reference to Figures 7 to 10. [0031] Figure 7 shows a battery assembly 8 similar to that shown in Figure 3 and Figure 6, additionally comprising a capacitor 38. Capacitor 38 is arranged in a circuit such that it is parallel to the battery mounting terminals and to power cell 10. To test that vaporizer 24 is connected to battery assembly 8, computer 12 first controls power cell 10 to charge capacitor 38, then wait a short time and checks the charge on capacitor 38. For example, computer 12 can use a digital multimeter from battery assembly 8, wired in a parallel circuit switched to capacitor 38, to check the charge on capacitor 38. For example, in order to check the charge on capacitor 38, the computer 12 can cause the circuit of the switched digital multimeter to complete and can then receive information from the multimeter indicating a voltage across capacitor 38 resulting from the capacitor charge. If vaporizer 24 is connected, the resistance of vaporizer 24 causes capacitor 38 to discharge quickly, then computer 12 measures at least one capacitor 38 substantially completely discharged. If vaporizer 24 is not connected, the capacitor is not substantially completely discharged when checked by computer 12. Figure 8 shows an arrangement similar to that shown in Figure 7, further comprising a resistor 40 in series with capacitor 38. For example, the resistor 40 and capacitor 38 can be connected in series to each other and in parallel with the first and second battery mounting connection terminals 2 8 32. [0032] The battery assembly 8 of the devices described here can additionally comprise an air pressure sensor, in which the air pressure sensor is powered by the energy cell 10 and controlled by the computer 12. Once the vaporizer is connected to battery assembly 8 and the device enters a connected mode after computer 12 has determined the connection status of the device, the user needs to suck on the nozzle 2 to use the device. The electronic device for steam delivery is configured in such a way that the user sucks at the nozzle 2 causes a drop in air pressure in the air pressure sensor. Computer 12, therefore, receives information from the air pressure sensor indicating that the user is sucking on the device. In response to this information, computer 12 controls power cell 10 to supply vaporizer 24. For example, the computer can control energy cell 10 to supply vaporizer 24 through the respective first and second terminals of both the battery assembly the vaporizer. This causes vaporization of liquid communicated to vaporizer 24 from liquid bottle 22. The steam delivered then passes to the user. Consequently, the use of the device by a user comprises the user sucking on the device and the detection of this user's interaction by the device in order to trigger the vaporization of the liquid contained in the device. The pressure sensor is referred to as 43 in the circuit of Figure 10, hereinafter described in more detail. [0033] It should be noted that the configuration described here from computer 12 to determine whether vaporizer 24 is connected to battery assembly 8 does not require use of the device by the user. [0034] Figure 9 shows a battery assembly 8, comprising a digital multimeter 44, similar to that described with reference to Figures 7 and 8, additionally comprising a transistor 42 and the air pressure sensor 43 described previously. Figure 10 shows a circuit diagram of the battery assembly in Figure 9. [0035] Transistor 42 is connected in series between energy cell 10 and capacitor 38. [0036] In the example shown in Figure 9 and Figure 10, the previously described control of capacitor 38 charging by computer 12 involves transistor 42. To test whether vaporizer 24 is connected, computer 12 sends a square wave pulse to the transistor 42. Transistor 42 supplies current to capacitor 38 for a period of time equal to the pulse width, therefore charging capacitor 38. For example, transistor 42 can be configured in such a way that it opens a current from the cell of energy 10 to capacitor 38 for a period of time equal to the pulse width. As described above, if vaporizer 24 is connected, computer 12 measures at least one capacitor 38 substantially completely discharged. [0037] In relation to the modalities described here, the following alternatives and variations will now be described. [0038] The electronic devices for steam supply described may be electronic cigarettes. [0039] The resting time can be substantially 2 seconds. However, the resting time is not restricted to 2 seconds and other suitable values could be used. In addition, the time between entering sleep modes can be significantly less than the resting time. [0040] Computer processor 16 can be a microprocessor. Furthermore, computer 12 may comprise a microcontroller. In addition, a computer such as a microcontroller could use a surveillance timer to implement the standby timeout in low power mode. Using a microcontroller has space-saving advantages as the complete computer is located on a single chip and therefore the size of the device is minimized. Fewer components to assemble also provide reduced production times and costs. The computer is not restricted to being a microcontroller and could be manufactured from separate processor, memory and input-output components. [0041] The device is not restricted to having a cigarette shape. [0042] The vaporizer 24 and the battery assembly 8 can be removably connected to each other. [0043] The vaporizers 24 described are examples only. [0044] In addition, the sleep mode can be the lowest non-zero energy mode of the device. [0045] Although an air pressure sensor 43 is described, other settings can be applied to detect when a user is trying to use the device. For example, an airflow sensor can be used and the device can be configured in such a way that a user sucks at nozzle 2 causes airflow through the airflow sensor. [0046] Although a liquid bottle 22 is described, other types of liquid storage can be used. For example, the device may comprise foam partially saturated in liquid for vaporization. [0047] Although a digital multimeter 44 is described as being used by computer 12 to determine the charge level of the capacitor, other suitable configurations can be applied for this purpose. For example, a digital voltmeter can alternatively be used. [0048] The pulse provided by the computer can be a square wave pulse. [0049] Although examples have been shown and described, it will be appreciated by those skilled in the art that various changes and modifications can be made without departing from the scope of the invention.
