Invention Patent Descriptive Report for COMPOUND CARTRIDGES BASED ON POLYMER AND AMMUNITION CONTAINING THE SAME. [0001] This application is being filed as an International PCT Patent Application in the name of (i) Juan Carlos Marin, a citizen and resident of Spain and (ii) Paul Lemke, a citizen and resident of the United States, on December 21 2012, designating all countries, and claiming priority for United States Serial Number 61 / 579,476 filed on December 22, 2011. TECHNICAL FIELD [0002] The present invention relates to composite cartridges ("composite casings") based on polymer and ammunition comprising the same, methods of manufacturing composite cartridges based on polymer and ammunition comprising the same, and methods of using cartridges polymer-based compounds and ammunition comprising them. BACKGROUND [0003] Ammunition used in firearms is composed of four components: an initiator or fuse, a cartridge, a propellant or gunpowder, and a bullet or projectile (also called a tip). The cartridge is a cylinder that acts as a support for the initiator, the projectile and propellant are contained within the cartridge. [0004] Ammunition, in general, has been formed from metal. The vast majority of current cartridges are made of military bronze, the so-called 70/30 bronze. The most widely used metal is bronze, plated steel, steel and, in some cases, aluminum. [0005] Attempts have been made to produce useful ammunition from materials other than metal. For example, United States Patent No. 2,654,319; 2,862,446; 6,845,716 and 7,213,519, all di Petition 870200018515, of 02/07/2020, p. 5/74 2/34 ordinary ammunition has at least one component formed from a polymeric material. In any case, all disclosed non-metallic ammunition has one or more deficiencies that prevented large-scale use, if any, in weapons such as rifles and pistols. For example, previous non-metallic ammunition tends to split (for example, individual components separated from each other) during firing. In other words, previous non-metallic ammunition does not have an ammunition structure that regularly resists forces inside the ammunition during firing. [0006] Efforts continue to develop ammunition cartridges that (1) provide one or more unique characteristics, (2) are relatively easy to manufacture and use, (3) provide an aesthetically pleasing appearance for the user and other spectators, ( 4) are economical to manufacture and use, and (5) provide an ammunition structure that resists forces within the ammunition during firing. SUMMARY [0007] The present invention continues the effort to develop ammunition cartridges by discovering polymer-based composite cartridges that (1) provide one or more unique characteristics (for example, a reduction in total weight compared to cartridges and ammunition) (2) are relatively easy to manufacture and use, (3) provide an aesthetically pleasing appearance for the user and other viewers, (4) are economical to manufacture and use, and (5) provide an ammunition structure that resists forces inside the ammunition during firing. The present invention is directed to composite cartridges based on polymer and ammunition as described and shown in this document. [0008] The present invention is directed to composite cartridges that contain a single continuous polymer wrap; and a BuPetition 870200018515, of 02/07/2020, p. 6/74 3/34 metal cha embedded within the single continuous polymer wrap; wherein the single continuous polymer wrap (i) extends the full length of the composite cartridge fully incorporating the metal bushing in it or (ii) extends over an outer side surface that extends horizontally through the lower part of the bushing metal, in order to incorporate the entire metal bushing with the exception of an extraction edge of the metal bushing. [0009] The single continuous polymer wrap has an internal surface profile along a portion of the single continuous polymer wrap which mirrors a surface profile on the outer side of the metal bushing embedded within the single continuous polymer wrap. Typically, the inner surface profile of the single continuous polymer wrap and the outer side surface profile of the mirror image of the metal bushing comprise one or more vertically extending side surfaces, one or more extending side surfaces horizontally, and one or more angularly extending side surfaces. [00010] In some embodiments, the single continuous polymer wrap has (i) a cylindrical shaped polymer wrap with (ii) a first polymer wrap end, (iii) a second polymer wrap end opposite the first end polymer wrap, (iv) an outer surface of the polymer wrap which extends along the cylindrical shaped polymer wrap from the first polymer wrap end to the second polymer wrap end, and (v) a a series of inner polymer wrap surfaces that extend along an inner surface of the cylindrical shaped polymer wrap from the first polymer wrap end to the second polymer wrap end; and the metal bushing is incorporated inside the polymer wrapper Petition 870200018515, of 02/07/2020, p. 7/74 4/34 single bare at the second end of the polymer wrap and along a lower part of a series of internal polymer wrap surfaces. In these embodiments, the lower part of a series of inner polymer wrap surfaces has an inner surface profile that mirrors a surface profile on the outside of the metal bushing. [00011] The present invention is further directed to methods of manufacturing composite cartridges based on disclosed polymers and to methods of using composite cartridges based on disclosed polymers. In an exemplary embodiment, the method of manufacturing a polymer based composite cartridge comprises the formation of a single continuous wrap of polymeric material with a metal bushing positioned along a base end of the single continuous polymer wrap. In the desired methods of manufacturing the polymer based composite cartridges disclosed, the resulting single continuous polymer wrap (i) forms the composite cartridge (for example, an outer surface profile of the composite cartridge) and (ii) integrates most or the entire metal bushing within the single continuous polymer wrap by means of an overmoulding step. In addition, the resulting single continuous polymer wrap desirably isolates the metal bushing from a powder chamber positioned within the single continuous polymer wrap (for example, a polymeric material wall of the single continuous polymer wrap involves a chimney component of the metal bushing as will be discussed below). [00012] In an exemplary embodiment, the method of using a composite cartridge based on polymer comprises positioning the composite cartridge in a chamber of a projectile firing gun; and firing the gun. [00013] These and other features and advantages of this information Petition 870200018515, of 02/07/2020, p. 8/74 5/34 will become apparent after a review of the following detailed description of the disclosed modalities and added claims. DETAILED DESCRIPTION [00023] To promote understanding of the principles of the present invention, descriptions of specific modalities of the invention follow and specific language is used to describe the specific modalities. In any case, it should be understood that no limitation of the scope of the invention should occur by the use of specific language. Changes, new modifications, and still other applications of the principles of the present invention discussed are contemplated as would normally occur to a person commonly skilled in the technology to which the invention belongs. [00024] The present invention is directed to polymer based composite cartridges, methods of making polymer based composite cartridges, and methods of using polymer based composite cartridges. FIG. 1 provides a cross-sectional view of a composite polymer-based cartridge 1 of the present invention. [00025] As shown in FIG. 1, the polymer based composite cartridge 1 is composed of a single continuous polymer wrapper such as the example single continuous polymer wrapper 2, and a metal bushing such as the example metal bushing 3. As used in this document, the phrase "single continuous polymer wrap" refers to a polymer wrap which comprises a single continuous piece of patterned polymeric material. For example, the single continuous polymer wrap can be formed by means of a single molding step (for example, a single injection molding step). [00026] As shown in FIG. 1, the example continuous single polymer wrap 2 comprises (i) an overlapping polymer section 21 (shown around a bottom of the projectile Petition 870200018515, of 02/07/2020, p. 10/74 7/34 4), (ii) an upper central polymer section 22 that supplies and wraps a powder chamber 5, (iii) a lower central polymer section 23 that encompasses an upper part of the metal bushing 3 and (iv) a portion of end 24 forming an extraction edge 6. As further indicated in FIG. 1, the example metal bushing 3 can be integrally formed within the example single continuous polymer wrap 2 during, for example, an injection molding process (for example, an overmolding step). [00027] FIG. 4 shows a cross-sectional view of another exemplary composite cartridge 1 of the present invention. As shown in FIG. 4, the exemplary single continuous polymer wrap 2 is composed of (i) an overlapping polymer section 21 (shown around a lower part of the projectile 4), (ii) an upper central polymer section 22 that supplies and wraps a powder chamber 5, (iii) a lower central polymer section 23 comprising an upper portion of metal bushing 3 and (iv) an end portion 24 which is in contact with an extraction edge 6 'of the metal bushing 3. As further indicated in FIG. 4, the exemplary metal bushing 3 can be formed integrally within the single continuous polymer wrapper of example 2 during, for example, an injection molding process (for example, an overmolding step). [00028] As still shown in FIGS. 1 to 2 and 4 to 5, the single continuous polymer wrap 2 has an inner surface profile along the inner surfaces 27 of (i) lower central polymer section 23 and (ii) end portion 24 that mirrors the side surfaces exteriors 33 of an exterior lateral surface profile of the metal bushing 3 incorporated within the single continuous polymer wrapper 2. As shown in FIGS. 1 and 4, the inner surface profile of the single continuous polymer wrap 2 and the outer side surface profile with mirror image of the metal bushing 3 along the Petition 870200018515, of 02/07/2020, p. 11/74 8/34 inner surfaces 27 of (i) the lower central polymer section 23 and (ii) of the end portion 24 comprise one or more vertically extending side surfaces (e.g., a vertically extending side surface 91 that extends along the chimney component 9, and three separate side surface components extending vertically 331, 332 and 333 along a base component 13 of the metal bushing 3), one or more side surfaces that extend extend horizontally (for example, an outer surface that extends horizontally 38 (i) connecting the chimney component 9 to the base component 13), and one or more side surfaces that extend at an angle (for example, the side surface extending at an angle 92 and extending along the chimney component 9 and the sharp-edged edge 12 of the metal bushing 3, and two separate angled extending side surface components 334 and 335 along the component from b ase 13 of the metal bushing 3). [00029] Similar to the internal surface profile of the single continuous polymer wrapper 2 and the outer side surface profile in mirror image of the metal bushing 3 of the exemplary composite cartridge 1, normally, other composite cartridges of the present invention comprise a profile inner surface of a polymer wrap (for example, single continuous polymer wrap 2) and an outer side surface profile in mirror image of a metal bushing (eg, metal bushing 3) positioned inside the polymer wrap, in which each of (i) the inner surface profile of the polymer wrap and (ii) the outer side surface profile in mirror image of a metal bushing comprises (1) one or more surfaces of vertically extending side (desirably, at least one vertically extending side surface, more desirably, at least two side surfaces Petition 870200018515, of 02/07/2020, p. 12/74 9/34 vertically extending, and even more desirably, at least three vertically extending side surfaces), (2) one or more horizontally extending side surfaces (desirably, at least one extending side surface horizontally, and in some cases, two or more side surfaces that extend horizontally) and (3) one or more side surfaces that extend at an angle (desirably, at least one side surface that extends at an angle, most desirably , at least two side surfaces that extend at an angle, and in some cases, three or more side surfaces that extend at an angle, for example, when two or more notches 10 are present within the outer side surfaces 33 of the bushing of metal 3). [00030] As shown in FIGS. 1 to 2 and 4 to 5, the exemplary metal bushing 3 has a cylindrical metal bushing that can be formed, for example, through a lathe, a stamping process, metal casting or other metal molding technology . With reference to FIGS. 2 and 5, the exemplary metal bushing 3 is composed of (i) a first end of the bushing 31, (ii) a second end of the bushing 32 as opposed to the first end of the bushing 31, (iii) a surface on the outer side of the bushing bushing 33 extending from the first end of bushing 31 to the second end of bushing 32, (iv) an initiator housing section 7 extending a distance d1 from the second end of bushing 32 to the first end of the chuck 31 and being secured by the side walls of the primer housing section 71 and the upper walls of the primer housing section 72, (v) a chuck channel 8 that connects the primer housing section 7 with the powder chamber 5 (See FIGS. 1 and 4) and extends a distance d2 along the exemplary metal bushing 3, in which d1 + d2 is equal to a total length of the exemplary metal bushing 3, (vi) a reduction Petition 870200018515, of 02/07/2020, p. 13/74 10/34 in the outer diameter that forms a chimney of the bushing 9 around an upper portion of the bushing channel 8, and (vii) clamping notches 10 along the outer side surfaces of the bushing 33 of the exemplary metal bushing 3. [00031] As shown in FIGS. 1 and 4, the clamping notches 10 are filled with polymeric material 25 during injection molding of the single continuous polymer casing 2 in order to ensure the axial positioning of the exemplary metal bushing 3 within the single exemplary continuous polymer casing 2 The first bushing end 31 of the exemplary metal bushing 3 desirably comprises a sharp edge 12 above the chimney of the bushing 8 in order to (1) minimize the direct action of shot pressure on the exemplary metal bushing 3 and (2) easily absorb the machining tolerances of the total length of the metal bushing 3 in the mold. [00062] The present invention is further addressed to a plurality of Petition 870200018515, of 02/07/2020, p. 19/74 16/34 polymer based composite cartridges of the present invention. The present invention is also directed to a box of composite cartridges of the present invention, the box that includes one or more polymer based cartridges of the present invention positioned within a cartridge holding device (for example, a cartridge holding device). cartridge normally used to store metal ammunition cartridges), and an outer box sized to contain the cartridge holding device with one or more composite cartridges positioned therein. [00063] The present invention is further directed to methods of manufacture, the method of manufacture any of the compound cartridges disclosed in this document. In one embodiment, the method of making the composite cartridge of the present invention comprises molding a metal bushing with a single continuous polymer wrapping material. The overmoulding step can include, for example, an injection molding step. In preferred embodiments, the exemplary single continuous polymer wrap 2 is (1) manufactured by a thermoplastic injection molding step and (2) has the outer dimensions (for example, full length, overall outer diameter along the length , etc.) specific to different standards for the size of a corresponding metal ammunition (for example, a 9mm metal cartridge). [00064] In a desired embodiment, the method of making the composite cartridge of the present invention comprises positioning a metal bushing within a mold; and the injection of a polymeric molding material into the mold for the purpose of encapsulating all or almost all the outer surfaces of the metal bushing (for example, the outer surfaces 33 of the metal bushing 3). Desirably, the methods of making the composite cartridges of the present invention result in composite cartridges Petition 870200018515, of 02/07/2020, p. 20/74 17/34 having an inner and outer surface profile, as discussed above, and similar to the inner and outer surface profile of the exemplary composite cartridges 1 shown in FIGS. 1 to 8. [00065] Once the composite cartridge is formed, a cartridge loading process can proceed as in a conventional process, using metal cartridges. For example, the methods of loading composite cartridges of the present invention comprise the formation of a composite cartridge, as discussed above, followed by one or more of the following steps: the powder modality (not shown) within the powder chamber 5 of the wrapper. single continuous polymer 2, insertion of projectile 100 into single continuous polymer wrap 2 (e.g., an overlapping polymer section 21 of single continuous polymer wrap 2); and the mode of an initiator (not shown) within the initiator housing volume 7 of the metal bushing 3. [00066] The present invention is further directed to methods of using any of the polymer based compound cartridges described in this document. Methods of using any of the polymer-based composite cartridges of the present invention can include, but are not limited to, one or more of the following steps: positioning a composite cartridge in a projectile gun chamber; and firing the gun. [00067] During shooting, the pressure inside the powder chamber 5 increases. Increasing the pressure in the powder chamber 5 means that a projectile 100 can move forward at high speed. The reaction force of the pressure increase within the powder chamber 5 is contained in the single continuous polymer wrap 2, as shown in FIGS. 3 and 6. [00068] As shown in FIGS. 3 and 6, the pressure forces that extend radially pushing the walls of the powder chamber 5 are absorbed by the single continuous polymer wrap 2 (for example, Petition 870200018515, of 02/07/2020, p. 21/74 18/34 example, any portion of the single continuous polymer wrap that has an internal surface that makes contact with that powder chamber 5). Axially, the reaction pressure forces do not act directly on the metal bushing 3, but are absorbed by a polymeric wall around the chimney component 9 (see the polymeric wall portion 23 'in FIG. 1), so that, if there is a possibility for the metal bushing 3 to move, the metal bushing 3 and the polymer wrap 2 will move together as a single part. In addition, the grooves 10 of the metal bushing 3 filled with polymeric material 25 of the single continuous polymer wrap 2 still connect the metal bushing 3 with the single continuous polymer wrap 2 within the composite cartridge 1, which moves as a single piece under the reaction forces resulting from shooting the composite cartridge 1 inside, for example, a gun or pistol (not shown). [00069] Other Modalities: [00070] Modalities of composite cartridge: [00071] A composite cartridge 1 consisting of: a single continuous polymer wrap 2; and a metal bushing 3 embedded within said single continuous polymer wrap 2; wherein said single continuous polymer wrapper 2 (i) extends a total length Lcc of said composite cartridge 1 fully incorporating said metal bushing 3 in it or (ii) extending over an outer side surface extending horizontally lower 381 of said metal bushing 3 in order to incorporate all said metal bushing 3, except for an extraction edge 6 'of said metal bushing 3. [000145] The above procedure, or a variation thereof, was used to shape ammunition suitable for use in a variety of commercially available rifles and pistols. [000146] It should be understood that, despite the compound cartridges described above, ammunition (for example, a compound cartridge in combination with a projectile, gunpowder (or propellant) and a fuze (or initiator)) and methods are described as "comprising" one or more components or steps, the compound cartridges described above, ammunition and methods may "comprise", "consist of" or "consist essentially of" any of the components described above, characteristics or steps of the compound cartridges, ammunition and methods . Therefore, whenever the present invention, or a part of it, has been described with an open term like "comprising", it should be readily understood (unless otherwise stated) that the description of the present invention, or part thereof , must also be interpreted to describe the present invention, or a part of it, using the terms Petition 870200018515, of 02/07/2020, p. 36/74 33/34 of ”or“ consisting of ”or variations thereof as discussed below. [000147] As used in this document, the terms "comprises", "comprising", "includes", "including", "has", "having", "contains", "containing", "characterized by" or any other variation of these, are intended to include a non-exclusive inclusion, subject to any explicitly stated limitation, otherwise, the recited components. For example, a composite cartridge and / or method that “consists” of a list of elements (for example, components, features or steps) is not necessarily limited to just those elements (or components or steps), but can include other elements ( or components or steps) not expressly stated or inherent in the method and / or the composite cartridge. [000148] As used in this document, the transition phrases "consists" and "consisting of" exclude any unspecified element, step, or component. When the phrase “composed of” or “consisting of” appears in a clause in the body of a claim, instead of immediately following the preamble, the phrase “is composed” or “consisting of” limits only the elements (or components or steps ) established in the clause; other elements (or components) are not excluded from the claim as a whole. [000149] As used in this document, the transition phrases “consists essentially of” and “consists essentially of” are used to define a composite cartridge, ammunition and / or method that includes materials, steps, resources, components or elements, for Petition 870200018515, of 02/07/2020, p. 37/74 34/34 in addition to those disclosed literally, provided that these additional materials, steps, resources, components or elements, materially do not affect the basic and new feature of the claimed invention. The term "essentially consists of" occupies a middle ground between "composed of" and "consisting of". [000150] Furthermore, it should be understood that the composite cartridge described in this document, the ammunition and / or the methods may comprise, consist essentially of, or consist of any of the components and features described in this document, as shown in the figures with or without any features not shown in the figures. In other words, in some embodiments, the composite cartridge, methods and / or ammunition of the present invention have no additional features beyond those shown in the figures, and such additional features, not shown in the figures, are specifically excluded from the composite cartridge, ammunition and / or methods. In other embodiments, the composite cartridge, ammunition and / or methods of the present invention have one or more additional features that are not shown in the figures. [000151] While the specification has been described in detail with respect to their specific modalities, it will be appreciated that those skilled in the technology, in order to achieve an understanding of the above, can easily conceive of equivalent changes and variations for these modalities . Accordingly, the scope of the present invention must be assessed as of the added claims and any equivalent to them.
