Invention Patent Descriptive Report for: "CONTAINER WITH FOLDING SIDE WALLS ONE ON TOP OF THE OTHER".
[001] The invention relates to a container for transporting and storing goods, such a container including a container base and at least two side walls that can be folded over one another, according to the preamble of claim 1.
[002] Foldable containers are well known in the art. Foldable containers of this type typically include a container base with a low rectangular view, in which the side walls are joined at the ends of the base by hinges, where such hinges are joined by hinge pins (or screws) in hinges. pins, which means that the hinges are rotationally supported.
[003] With the side walls in a raised position (folded upwards), these side walls are joined together by means of a spring lock (snap lock), which can be unlocked again to allow the container to be folded, for example, for transport when empty, which, however, is not mandatory. [004] For many foldable containers the side walls are configured greater than half the width of the base of the container, so that the side walls overlap when two side walls disposed opposite each other are folded towards each other. . A container is known as described in US Patent No. 6,460,717 B1, in which the opposite folded side wall can be placed in two end positions, with a lower end position in which the folded side wall touches the plane of the container base, and an upper end position in which the side wall abuts the opposite side wall folded at a point that is moved upwards in relation to the upper position, in a direction perpendicular to the base of the container in a parallel manner. The side wall can be raised from the upper end position. US patent No. 6,460,717 B1 describes a pin fitting for this purpose which extends upwardly from the base of the container and is in the form of a hole with arc grooves, in which the pin moves freely in the fitting , inside the grooved hole when the wall is lowered (folded down).
[005] A disadvantage of these folding containers is that the side folded down initially has to be lifted from its lower end position to its upper end position, when then the rotation to lift the side wall can be performed. When you accidentally try to lift the side wall from its lower position, the hinge pin may become stuck inside the socket, which can lead to damage to the container. In contrast to this, the present invention proves to be superior, as it allows an immediate folding of the side wall, together with an initial translation movement, so that there is no specific order to be considered in relation to the movement / activation of the side wall and therefore, any damage to the joint is prevented by a potentially wrong order of operating the side wall to bend it upward, as can happen in US patent No. 6,460,717 B1.
[006] Thus, it is the objective of this invention, to provide a robust and simple configuration folding mechanism for a container with foldable side walls, where the mechanism is characterized by a particularly simple operation in comparison with the known folding mechanisms.
[007] This objective is achieved according to the present invention through the characteristics contained in the body of claim 1. Advantageous configurations of the invention are characterized by the characteristics of the dependent claims. [008] Thus, a hinge configuration is provided, so that the hinge pin is provided with a supported translation movement during the folding of the side wall from the lower end position, this means a rotation of the pin within the socket, so that the side wall is moved in an upward direction perpendicular to the base of the container.
[009] The hinge pins are thus arranged in the upper portion of the socket of the pin socket when the wall is raised and are configured to be arranged in the lower portion or in the upper portion of the cavity when the side wall is folded downwards. This facilitates, on the one hand, that no folding sequence is necessary to fold down the side walls that are arranged opposite each other, since two end positions are provided for the downwardly folded side wall. On the other hand, it is guaranteed that the raised side wall is always in the same position, since the movement of the articulation pin follows a predetermined path during the lifting or folding upwards of the side wall. Sticking of the articulation pin in the lower end position is avoided, as it is forced to a translational movement through a rotation.
[010] According to a preferred configuration, the hinge pin fitting includes a recess configured as a slotted hole (grooved) that extends substantially in a direction perpendicular to the container base, where this slotted hole is configured oblong in the downward direction, that is, towards the base of the container and the conical part forms a positive guide for the hinge pin for folding the side wall upwards from the bottom end position.
[011] In a particularly preferred configuration, the recess is thus defined in the conical portion by an inclined ramp or an inclined surface oriented towards the interior of the box. The inclined ramp can therefore be configured with a straight or linear surface, but also as arched, convex or concave surfaces, which extend upwards from the outside of the box to the inside of the box and form a side wall in the conical portion .
[012] In a particularly preferred configuration the ramp is configured straight or linear and inclined between 30 ° and 70 °, preferably between 50 ° and 60 °, particularly preferably, inclined 53 ° with respect to the base surface or the base of the container. That is, it has become evident that jamming of the hinge pin in the pin socket is particularly well avoided at such angles. [013] According to a particularly preferred configuration, the hinge pin has a structure that is different from a hinge pin configured with a circular cross section, in particular a cross section with a circular main body or with a circular shaped segment and a shoulder, which may preferably comprise a rounded-pointed shoulder or a flat area, or which may be configured with an eccentric cross section. The translation movement of the hinge pin is provided particularly well through a structure different from that with circular cross section.
[014] In this way, it is apparent that it is advantageous when the shoulder or the main axis of the hinge pin is substantially oriented downwards to the side wall folded down, where an inclination of approximately 100 ° with respect to the base of the container is preferred. or with respect to the main surface of the base, in particular 10 ° towards the outside of the box is preferred. [015] Other advantages and configurations of the invention are described with reference to the figures, where: FIG. 1 illustrates a cross-sectional view of a container with two side walls folded on top of each other; FIG. 2 illustrates an enlarged view of the detail of the container of FIG. 1 with a side wall folded down; FIG. 3 illustrates a cross-sectional view of part of the container with a side wall folded upwards by approximately 30 °; FIG. 4 illustrates a cross-sectional view of a part of the container with a side wall folded upwards by approximately 45 °; FIG. 5 illustrates a cross-sectional view of a portion of the container with a side wall folded upwards by approximately 60 °; FIG. 6 illustrates a cross-sectional view of a container with a raised side wall; FIG. 7 illustrates a side view of a container with a raised side wall; and FIG. 8a, b, c, d illustrates cross-sectional views of hinge pins.
[016] The cross-sectional views of FIGS. 1 to 6 thus extend along line A-A of FIG. 7.
[017] FIG.1 illustrates a Container 1 with a container base 2, which includes bars at the ends 3 disposed opposite to each other, and with two side walls 4 folded on top of each other. The end bars 3 project in an upward direction perpendicular to the main surface of the base of the container 2 and can be provided in sections on the sides of the base of the container 2, or also in a circumferential manner. In particular, the end bars 3 are mainly manufactured integrally with the base of the container 2.
[018] The pegs 5 are arranged on the end bars 3 respectively to receive a peg 6, located on the underside of the side wall 4. The joint pin 5 is subsequently described in more detail with reference to the FIGS. 2 to 6.
[019] The position of the right side wall 4, shown in FIG.1 is designated as the bottom end position of the folded side wall 4 and the position of the left side wall 4 is designated as the top end position.
[020] With reference to FIG. 2, the hinge pin socket 5 includes a cavity 7 in a cross-sectional view, such a cavity including an upper part 8 having constant width along the height, and a tapered lower part 9, which are continuously configured one with respect to to the other, so that it is possible to move the hinge pin 6 from the conical part 9 to the upper part 8 and vice versa, so that the side wall 4 can be transferred from the lower end position to the upper end position and vice versa. versa.
[021] The cavity 7 is surrounded or defined by an upper wall 10, an external side wall 11, an internal side wall 12 and a lower wall 13, where the hinge pin 6 is movable within the box formed by the walls 10, 11 , 12 and 13.
[022] The lower wall 13 is configured here as an inclined ramp 14 that extends from the external side wall 11 to the internal side wall 12 in an upward direction, which provides a triangular configuration in cross section of the conical part 9. Thus, the inclined ramp 14 is inclined by 53 ° with respect to the base of the container.
[023] The pivot pin comprises a main body 15 with a circular cross-section and a shoulder 16. When the side wall 4 is folded down, the shoulder 16 is directed substantially downward, as shown in FIG. 2, towards the base of the container, and when the side wall 4 is folded up (raised), as shown in FIG.6, the ledge 16 is directed, substantially, towards the inside of the container. More specifically, in the folded-down position of the side walls 4, the shoulder is inclined approximately 100 ° with respect to the base of the container 2, that is, 10 ° towards the outside of the box.
[024] When the walls are folded down, the hinge pin 6, coming from the upper end position of the side wall 4 illustrated in FIG. 2, it is movable towards the conical part 9 of the pin socket, where the circular main body 15 abuts the inclined ramp 14, with the shoulder 16 of the hinge pin 6 in the lower end position. In addition, in the lower end position, the circularly shaped main body 15 of the hinge pin 6 abuts the outer side wall 11 of the socket 5, where the side wall 4 is supported without play, in particular as described in FIG. 1.
[025] The process of folding the side wall 4 is described with reference to FIGS. 3 to 6. When the side wall 4 is folded, the side wall rotates around a center of rotation 17, which is located substantially in the center of the hinge pin 6. The hinge configuration causes a movement of translation of the center of rotation when a rotation movement is performed, starting from the lower end position of the side wall 4, where the translation movement displaces the side wall 4 upwards when it is being raised (folded upwards).
[026] More precisely, the inclined ramp 14 with the outer side wall 11 of the cavity 7 forms a positive guide for the hinge pin 6 when the side wall 4 is raised, where the circular main body 15 slides upwards over the outer side wall 11 and the shoulder 16 slides along the inclined ramp 14.
[027] FIG. 3 illustrates the side wall 4 which is bent at an angle of approximately 30 °, where the shoulder 16 of the hinge pin 6 abuts the inclined ramp 14 and the circular shaped main body 15 of the hinge pin 6 is in contact with the wall external side 11 of the cavity 7. FIGS 4 and 5 illustrate, respectively, the 45 ° and 60 ° configuration, which makes the positive guide for the hinge pin 6 evident.
[028] The positive guide for the ledge 16 ends approximately at the inclined ramp 14, as illustrated in FIG. 4, where the side wall 4 is folded upwards at a 45 ° angle. The side wall 4 rises over a support 18, as described in FIGS. 5 and 6, where a part of the lower end 19 of the main surface of the side wall 4 contacts the support 18. The rotation of the side wall 4 is limited by a stop 27 which is arranged on the side wall 4, where such stop stops on the end bar 3 when the side wall 4 is raised. [029] FIG. 7 illustrates a side view of the side wall 4 raised from the inside of the box. Thus, the lower end 19 of the side wall 4 is in contact with the upper end 20 of the end bar 3. In this configuration the side wall 4 is joined by two hinges, however, this is not a limitation. In addition, it is further described that the hinge pins 6 are arranged on both sides of a protrusion 21 at the bottom of the side wall 4. The hinge pins 6 comprise shoulders 16 at their ends, where such shoulders are oriented in the direction of the inside the box, so they are oriented out of the displacement plane. The four projections 16 thus illustrated, respectively, fit into the positioning recesses 21, which are located inside the end bar 3, where these projections function as positioning elements, so that the suspension of the side wall outwards with respect to base of container 2 is avoided.
[030] FIGS. 8a, 8b, 8c and 8d illustrate different configurations of the hinge pin 6. Corresponding to the configurations of FIGS. 8a, 8b and 8c, the hinge pin 6 includes a main body of circular shape or with a segment of circular shape 15 and a part with a shoulder 16. The shoulder may preferably include a rounded tip 22 or, preferably , a flat area 23, where the walls 24 of such a shoulder, as illustrated in FIGS. 8a and 8c, can be linear or can also include arcs, as designated in FIGS 8b and 8c by reference number 25.
[031] FIG. 8d illustrates a pivot pin with an oval cross section, which includes a main axis 26, which defines the direction in a plane like the shoulders 16.
[032] Reinforced parts can certainly be connected or molded on, in particular, the surfaces of the hinge pin 6, whose surfaces are in contact with the inclined ramp 14 of the hinge pin socket (5), therefore the part that slides over the ramp, which can increase the life of the foldable container.
